Fukagawa Seiji Co., Ltd. has been serving Jimmy's German cake, a popular item in Okinawa, at its new tea and gallery establishment, FUKAGAWA SEIJI 1894 ROYAL KILN&TEA, since June 1, 2020. In response to positive feedback from customers, on June 11, known as "German Cake Day," everyone who visits the store and orders a drink will receive a free German cake.

German cake is a sweet treat that originated in America. It consists of two layers of chocolate sponge cake sandwiched between buttercream and topped with a generous amount of sweetly stewed coconut and walnut filling, making it an addictive cake with its crunchy coconut texture. It is so popular in the United States that June 11th is commemorated as "German Cake Day," and in Japan, it is loved as a secret treat in Okinawa. FUKAGAWA SEIJI 1894 ROYAL KILN&TEA is the only store in Tokyo that serves this German cake, which is hugely popular among Okinawans, specially ordered from Jimmy's, a long-established German cake maker.
To show our appreciation to our customers who love Fukagawa Seiji and our German cakes, we will be giving away a free Jimmy's German cake to everyone who visits us on Thursday, June 11, 2020 and orders a drink. The gently sweet German cake pairs perfectly with black tea brewed with tea leaves carefully selected by one of Japan's leading tea appraisers. Don't miss this opportunity to enjoy this rare cake, which is rarely seen outside of Okinawa.
FUKAGAWA SEIJI 1894 ROYAL KILN&TEA will continue to welcome customers with beautiful Fukagawa Seiji tableware and a carefully curated menu.

About Fukagawa Seiji

The Appeal of Fukagawa Seiji

1. "Fukagawa Blue" and "Translucent Porcelain" Created by Unique Techniques
The gradation of blue and white porcelain (indigo blue) created by Fukagawa Seiji's unique "Tsukedami" technique has been called "Fukagawa Blue" since the company's founding, and the "Translucent Porcelain" surface, created by firing at a high temperature of 1,350 degrees, achieves an elegant and transparent texture.

2. Exquisite craftsmanship that brings together the skills of artisans
"Porcelain without precision cannot be called art," says the company, which brings together skilled artisans for each process, including molding, painting, glazing, and firing. To ensure long-lasting use, the company meticulously crafts its vessels to be comfortable to the touch, with shapes and textures that feel comfortable in the hand, and optimal weight, down to the smallest details.

3. The "Fukagawa Style" - a unique design that sets it apart from Arita ware
Early on, Arita ware aimed to modernize, and while preserving traditional dyeing techniques, it constantly innovated its designs. It established the unique "Fukagawa Style," which completely transformed the traditional Arita ware design style by combining motifs not previously seen in Arita ware, such as morning glories, hydrangeas, irises, and Mount Fuji, with modern designs evoking the scent of 19th-century Parisian Japonism.
