Event Date:2017.09.29-12.03
Aug 18, 2017

Architect and architectural historian Terunobu Fujimori's "Terunobu Fujimori: Architecture that Utilizes Nature and Street Observation" exhibition will be held at the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art from September 29th to December 3rd. Fujimori, a leading figure in modern architectural and urban history, made his debut as an architect at the age of 44, designing the Shinchokan Moriya Historical Museum. Over the next 25 years, he has continued to create approximately 40 unique architectural works, including Takasugi-an, the thatched roofs of La Collina Omihachiman, and the Tajimi Mosaic Tile Museum. This exhibition, which follows the previous exhibition of the same title, which ran until May 14th at the Contemporary Art Gallery of Art Tower Mito in Ibaraki Prefecture, explores themes such as "How to utilize natural materials in modern architecture" and "How to incorporate plants into architecture." It also showcases Fujimori's representative architecture through sketches, models, and photographs, as well as material samples for roofs, walls, plasterwork, and other architectural works from Fujimori's previous projects, as well as furniture and teahouses. In addition, materials from his early activities such as "Street Observation" and "Architectural Detectives" are also on display, providing an opportunity to learn about Fujimori Terunobu's work from various angles. On September 18th, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, there will be a "Pre-Workshop" (advance registration required, capacity approximately 30 people, for elementary school students and older) where you can join Fujimori in making the "Charcoal Wall" and "Tile Blinds," which are part of the exhibit. Also, on September 30th, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Fujimori will give a lecture titled "Architecture that Makes Use of Nature" (capacity 150 people, numbered tickets distributed at 10:00 AM on the day), where he will talk about the architecture he has worked on to date. On October 8th and 22nd, from 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM, there will be tea ceremonies in the new tea house "Sencha" (seating for 5 people per session, participation fee 500 yen, advance registration required). Furthermore, on November 25th, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, there will be a special talk between Atelier Bow-Wow and Fujimori (capacity 150 people, numbered tickets distributed at 10:00 AM on the day). Gallery talks by museum curators will be held on both October 1st and November 26th, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

For events that require registration, applications must be made through the application form on the museum's website (https://www.hiroshima-moca.jp/exhibition/terunobu_fujimori/).
