Event Date:2025.11.08-11.10
Nov 10, 2025
ASTEAST_TOKYO 2025 is currently taking place at the Science Museum inside Tokyo’s Kitanomaru Park, running from November 8 to 10.Expanding beyond the main venue into the adjacent outdoor parking area, the fair brings together galleries and artist collectives from across Asia.More than a marketplace, it functions as a cultural experiment exploring “urban coexistence” through art and shared practice.

About EASTEAST_
Founded in Tokyo by cultural practitioners working across art, fashion, architecture, design, and music, EASTEAST_ is an independent art fair rooted in collaboration and critical dialogue.Organized by a team actively engaged in creative production, the fair is guided by questions and insights drawn from their daily practices.Participants range from internationally established galleries to community-based collectives, each pursuing expression in their own rhythms and contexts.

EASTEAST_ supports emerging artists and cultural producers shaping the future of creative culture, focusing not on market value but on the reality and potential of expression. With its emphasis on experimental, non-institutional local practices, the fair shares the living culture of Tokyo with the world while envisioning a global ecosystem of artistic exchange.

Another urban space where Asian expression intersects
Inside the Science Museum, and extending into the outdoor space of Kitanomaru Park, the fair presents works from Tokyo, Seoul, and Hong Kong, among other cities. At PARCEL, Chiezo Taro, Kohei Kawatani, and Urara Tsuchiya explore the tension between individuality and collectivity. AWASE gallery(Natsuno Nakamura) layers delicate materials such as paper and fabric to express memory and time, while  AKIINOUE(Ryunosuke Okazaki and Akihito Takuma) explore the interplay of light and materiality.

At THE SHOPHOUSE (Hong Kong), Theseus Chan uses the language of publishing and print to traverse the boundaries between graphic design and art, and Gallery Common showcases the works of Shohei Takasaki and Shōei Matsuda, juxtaposing color and form to create rhythmic tension in space.

Other participating collectives include CON_ (ARTKING, DODI, Ryoma Itagaki, Zhao Rundong, Robbie Stinchcomb, GANKAI KUJILLA, Mote Slim, Urot Esak, and Heijiro Yagi), whose multi-genre exhibition spans painting, sculpture, and video.

Meanwhile, beatfic experiment (tea-common(s)) is a creative label based in Fukushima, Noto, and Tokyo, operating under the concept of “Rebuilding Japan from disaster-affected regions.”Rather than confining itself to the narrow definition of art, the collective develops installations that invite reflection on people and nature through cultural expressions across clothing, food, and shelter.

Among the standout presentations, the artist collective GCMagazine unveils TURN OFF THE 5 PARADIGM LIGHTS—an installation that critically interrogates the conventions and mythology of photography’s “decisive moment.”The work is structured around a performance in which a car was manually pushed around the Suzuka Circuit in midsummer heat, documented in photographs and film. The vehicle, wrapped in images from the performance, and a custom-made racing suit equipped with a color chart both question the notion of labor and process in photography. On the opening day, the team performed the actual act of pushing the car into the venue—transforming photography from a visual medium into a physical and spatial experience.

A New Form of Fair Between Nature and City
With the Science Museum as its nucleus and installations unfolding across the surrounding park, the fair invites visitors to move fluidly between architecture, landscape, and art. Each transition between spaces becomes part of the experience, blurring the boundaries between exhibition and environment.

By reimagining the art fair as an evolving urban organism, EASTEAST_TOKYO 2025 embodies the layered dialogue of Tokyo itself—between commerce and critique, individual and collective, structure and freedom.
