Let's make clouds together! Rug-making event with Scandinavian artists at MUJI Yurakucho

Aug 8, 2017

The exhibition "Handscape" will be held from September 1st to October 29th at ATELIER MUJI on the second floor of MUJI Yurakucho in Yurakucho, Tokyo.

The exhibition is themed around clouds, and visitors will collaborate with Studio Brieditis & Evans, a unit formed by Swedish artists Katharina Brieditis and Katharina Evans, in a project to create large rugs using off-cuts from the production process of MUJI products. The exhibition title "Handscape" is a portmanteau of "hand" and "scape." By using items that would normally be thrown away to create beautiful, warm works using design, ideas, and the power of human hands, this event allows visitors to experience sustainable manufacturing and the joy of creating new value with their own hands.

In addition, Katharina Brieditis and Katharina Evans will be visiting Japan from September 12th to 17th, and will be creating works at the venue in public (no reservations required), as well as a talk and after-party by the artists on September 12th (at the Swedish Embassy/limited to 90 people), a workshop for students on September 14th (limited to 14 people), a rug-making workshop with the artists on September 15th (children under 10 must be accompanied by a parent/limited to 14 people), and workshops to make aprons using your own old shirts on October 1st, 14th and 25th (children under 10 must be accompanied by a parent/limited to 10 people per session). Advance reservations are required for all events.
