Lumine's new commercial facility, "New Man," will open next spring at the Shinjuku New South Exit. Aiming to create a place for urban women.

On the 26th, details were announced for NEWoMan, a commercial facility that Lumine will open at the new south exit of JR Shinjuku Station in spring 2016.

A floor-by-floor explanation of recommended shops opening in the area for the first time

The facility will occupy six floors of JR Shinjuku Miraina Tower, a 32-story high-rise currently under construction along Koshu Kaido, covering a total of 5,600 square meters, as well as three floors of 2,000 square meters of sales space above the tracks, including the Shinjuku New South Exit station premises (inside the station and outside). It is expected to have approximately 100 shops and generate sales of approximately 20 billion yen in its first year. The inside-the-station area and part of the station above are scheduled to open in mid-April, while the remaining areas are scheduled to open in two phases in late March.

This new commercial facility is completely different from the existing Lumine buildings, with a new concept of "providing experiences and value that allow women to continue to shine." It is taking on the challenge of total production as a comprehensive facility that includes non-retail facilities such as an event hall, nursery school, clinic, and rooftop vegetable garden, as well as the surrounding environment. From the perspective of urban development, Lumine President and CEO Ryosuke Arai says, "Shinjuku will create a model to emulate" other areas of Tokyo undergoing redevelopment, such as Shibuya, Marunouchi, Shinagawa, and Ikebukuro.

To that end, designer Chikara Ohno of Shinato was hired to propose an environmental design that integrates the station and commercial facility as a city. The wood-based design blurs the boundaries between the station concourse and the inside of the station, and between New Man and the plaza, conscious of the connection to the city and emphasizing cooperation and coexistence with the local community. Approximately 80% of the tenants will be opening for the first time in the Shinjuku area, with new store formats announced for domestic apparel and major select shops, including United Arrows' "ASTLAT," Tomorrowland's "Isabel Marant Etoile" and "Super Tea Market," "ESTNATION," "Maison Kitsuné," Onward Global Fashion, and Harmony Products. Additionally, Lumine will open its first Japanese location for the US West Coast restaurant, "800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria." Other dining options include Toraya Cafe, opening for the first time in the Shinjuku area; Bakery & Restaurant Sawamura, based in Karuizawa; and Rosemary's, a trattoria from New York's West Village, making its Japan debut. Going forward, Coco Lumine will strengthen its direct management efforts, including its first brick-and-mortar store, showcasing Japanese craftsmanship. By actively working on the operation of directly managed stores and product development and sales, the company plans to accumulate know-how in directly managed stores.
