Spontini, the Italian pizza chain with endless queues, is coming to Japan for the first time. Two locations will open at the same time.

Oct 21, 2015

Popular pizzeria Spontini, a favorite among Italians who hate waiting in line, will open this fall in the newly opened Cascade Harajuku shopping complex in Harajuku, Tokyo (2nd floor, 1-10-37 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), and in the newly reopened Shibuya Modi in Shibuya, Tokyo (1st and 2nd floors, 1-21-3 Jinnan, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo). Boasting a 61-year history, Spontini currently operates eight locations in Milan. Widely recognized by tourists and frequently featured in Japanese media, its pizzas are sprinkled with soybean oil and slowly baked in an iron pan, like deep-frying, resulting in a crispy bottom. Their generously sized, approximately 2cm thick pizzas, with a plump texture and a unique crispness that sets them apart from the pizzas Japanese people imagine, are beloved by many.

The menu only has two types: Margherita with cheese (830 yen per slice, 4,800 yen per whole slice) and Marinara without cheese (780 yen per slice). In addition to soft drinks, alcoholic beverages such as beer and wine will also be sold. Pizzas, including whole pizzas, are also available for takeout.

The opening dates are scheduled for October 30th for the Cascade Harajuku store and November 19th for the Shibuya Modi store.
