SAZABY LEAGUE opens rice shop! "Akomeya Tokyo" opens in Ginza, featuring collaboration rice with Mina Perhonen

Mar 15, 2013

SAZABY LEAGUE will open a new lifestyle store focused on rice, "AKOMEYA TOKYO," in Ginza on April 24th.

AKOMEYA TOKYO's purpose is to help each individual find their own way of life, from white rice, the center of food culture, to the dining table and everyday life. Although it is a rice shop, it offers approximately 6,000 items, blending Japanese and Western, new and old, including contemporary items and Japan's most advanced industrial products.

The store uses the award-winning brand rice of Kurosawa Farm in Yamagata Prefecture. As a special opening gift, the store will also sell a blend of rice supervised by chef Kihachi Kumagai, presented in a minã perhonen-designed masu. Additionally, as a collaboration with minã, original design aprons and drawstring bags for carrying rice will be available. Other items on sale include the limited-edition "TEMBEA RICE TOTE" (¥11,500) that holds 5kg of rice, rice containers made from Nikko cypress (¥8,000 for the 5kg version, ¥2,800 for the 2kg version), and masu (measures) (starting at ¥600). The store also features a limited-edition selection of food by Kihachi Kumagai, who curated all of AKOMEYA TOKYO's food. The store also offers "AKOMEYA Kitchen," which offers dishes made with food and tools sold in-store, a stand-up bar called "AKOMEYA BAR," and a food-themed sales area by the "Hobonichi Itoi Shimbun." Takeout options include warabi mochi (bracken-starch dumplings), ohagi (rice balls), and inari sushi (sushi rice balls) made with fresh ingredients. Regular "tasting events" are also held, where customers can rediscover the appeal of rice, seasonings, tableware, and tools through taste comparisons.
