
You'd be missing out if you don't try dim sum and seafood when you visit Hong Kong! You can eat your fill of freshly made dim sum and freshly caught seafood at prices much more reasonable than in Japan. If you're not sure where to go or worried about whether you can order, we've introduced some famous restaurants frequented by locals.

Sham Shui Po is packed with craft wholesalers and electronics stores, and is an area where numerous street stalls line the streets and famous local food restaurants pop up along narrow side streets. Located in an old building on this corner is Central Hotel, a Chinese teahouse with over 40 years of history. Although there is a large sign, it is located at the back of an ordinary building, so be careful not to miss it. Once you enter through the entrance at the back of the building, you will see people sitting at round tables munching on piping hot dim sum.


This restaurant uses a cart-style system where you order by pointing at the dim sum brought to you by the waitresses, so there's no need to worry if you don't understand the language. Just choose what you want from the cart that comes around to your table one after another. You can choose from an all-you-can-eat menu of dishes, including plump steamed shrimp dumplings, steaming steamed meat buns, smooth rice fungus, steamed yuba wrapped in fish swim bladder, a premium ingredient packed with collagen, as well as rice porridge flavored with dashi, lightly fried rice, and sweets like sesame dumplings. Even if you eat until you're full while drinking the tea provided in a pot, it's still super reasonable at less than 1,000 yen per person. Going with a large group will allow you to enjoy dim sum even more. *Dim sum is only available for lunch.

Enjoy fresh seafood at the market's food court.
Ap Lei Chau, located on the southern coast of Hong Kong Island, is now much more accessible thanks to the newly opened Lee Tung Station on the MTR South Island Line. Right next to the station is a food market where you can purchase fresh seafood at reasonable prices. Above the market are numerous food courts where freshly caught seafood is cooked and served on the spot. "Zhu Kee" is one such restaurant, where you can enjoy a hearty selection of seafood, including mantis shrimp, crab, shrimp, scallops, clams, and squid, at prices even more affordable than in Japan.


The must-try dishes here include seafood such as "Salt and Pepper Mantis Shrimp," "Boiled Shrimp," "Stir-fried Crab with Black Bean Paste," and "Scallops with Garlic and Vermicelli." They also have standard Chinese dishes on the menu, such as "Stir-fried Water Spinach with Shrimp Sauce," "Drum Oil Egg Noodles" similar to fried noodles, and "Stir-fried Chicken with Cashew Nuts," so you can customize your order to your liking. Since you eat while cutting up the crustaceans with scissors, your hands will get sticky and you'll have to eat in silence, but the taste is absolutely superb! Not only are the ingredients fresh, but the seasoning is also authentic, so no matter what you order, it seems like it won't disappoint. You can adjust the portion size depending on the number of people, and the price is incredibly cheap at around 3,000 yen per person, so be sure to give it a try.
