Many chefs in New York City compete to cater to the tastes of New Yorkers who love to eat out. While it's a fiercely competitive market where countless new restaurants emerge and disappear, Peter Luger Steakhouse is one long-established restaurant that has continued to earn Michelin stars for many years and remains beloved by locals and tourists alike.

Established in 1887, this restaurant is one of the oldest. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, it was an incredibly popular and very analogue restaurant where reservations were difficult to make and payment was cash only! It's a famous restaurant that's always featured in Japanese New York tourist guidebooks, so many people are sure to know about it. Due to the current situation, they've put in place a system to start offering delivery and takeout orders, and now also accepts credit card payments. For the restaurant's management and employees, this was a shocking change, like a complete reversal of the world.

This time, we'll be ordering takeout from Peter Luger Steakhouse.


Order online. Choose between delivery or pickup (takeout). Just like dining in at a restaurant, you can order your meat doneness - rare, medium-rare, medium, medium-well, well-done, etc. - and you can also request other specific preferences, such as the amount of spice. Another great thing is that you can specify your pickup time in 30-minute increments.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, this was a long-established, analog restaurant that didn't accept credit cards, but
they now accept credit card payments, delivery and takeout orders, and also offer online ordering.
I ordered the Rib Steak (USDA Prime Beef: Family Selected, Dry-Aged In-House) ($65.95) with Luger's Special German Fried Potatoes (2 servings, $12.95) as a side dish.

In addition to the two dishes we ordered and the cutlery set, we were also given a small Tabasco bottle and a Peter Luger chocolate...!

When you think of Michelin-starred restaurants, most are places where each dish is as beautiful as a work of art, but this is America. The steak is hearty, rugged and bold in a good way, giving off an American vibe. Looks delicious!

Add a few vegetables to the dish and enjoy with wine.

"Restaurant food is in a class of its own! It looks rugged, as you'd expect from a hearty New York steak, but the flavor is outstanding! This rib steak is made with aged meat, and since it's not too fatty, it's not heavy, is just the right amount of tender, and the delicious aroma of the meat fills your mouth as soon as you put it in. The restaurant's original sauce has a refreshing taste, with a hint of tomato acidity and a touch of sweetness. I usually prefer soy sauce, but I was so impressed by how well this sauce pairs with the meat that it doesn't need any added flavors. It goes so well with the meat that you don't even need anything else - meat, wine, meat, wine - it's so satisfying to eat. I highly recommend it for when you're craving meat!"
