Bvlgari Il Cioccolato releases limited edition Valentine's Day chocolates dedicated to Rome, the birthplace of the brand

Jan 14, 2022

The Chocolate Gems experience is not just about the taste, but also about its beautiful appearance, stimulating the senses and inspiring creativity the moment you put it in your mouth.

2022 marks the anniversary of the opening of the Bvlgari Hotel in Rome, the birthplace of Bvlgari. Therefore, at this year's San Valentino, Il Cioccolato will return to the brand's birthplace, tracing the story of the Eternal City and weaving the tale of a gastronomic journey.

Rome, the city that shaped Western civilization
The archaeological and cultural heritage of ancient Roman civilization contains many historical facts, which provide a clear insight into the lifestyles and even the culinary culture of the ancient Romans. Therefore, Bvlgari Il Cioccolato has created five unique chocolate gems inspired by five ingredients central to ancient Roman culinary culture.

To allow you to fully savor the five chocolate gems, we have arranged them in the order of appetizer → main course → dessert, reminiscent of an aristocratic dinner in ancient Rome. Enjoy a feast from 2,000 years ago to your heart's content.

Mosto*¹
A milk chocolate ganache made from aromatic grape juice infused with an original blend of spices, coated in bitter chocolate.

Olive Oil & Salt
A milk chocolate ganache made with olive oil from Lazio, Italy and rock salt from Sicily, Italy, coated in milk chocolate.

Spelt
Praline made with Italian spelt (also known as farro) and hazelnuts from Piedmont, Italy, coated in milk chocolate

Saffron Gianduja
Gianduja made with Italian saffron and raw almond paste, coated in milk chocolate

Dates
Milk chocolate ganache made with dates and pecan nuts coated in bitter chocolate

Most*¹: Wine that was an essential part of the ancient Roman dining table. It is said that at the time it was often diluted with water or other liquids before drinking. Of these, "mulsum", which is wine mixed with honey, was a popular aperitif (aperitif) and was served with the appetizers of a banquet course. "Most" is the grape juice that is the raw material for mulsum. At Il Cioccolato, we concentrate must with spices such as cinnamon, cloves, and white pepper, then add semi-dried figs to create a fruity flavor.

Sleeve inspired by mosaic, one of the symbols of ancient Rome.

Inspired by the mosaic pattern and techniques that are said to have developed dramatically along with the growth of the ancient Roman Empire, this sleeve was created by the artisans of Il Papiro, a long-established company in Florence, Italy. The embossing, which is meticulously applied to each piece using woodblocks, creates subtle shadows, and the warmth that can only be achieved through handwork, speaks of the powerful and magnificent ancient Rome, a country far removed from history.
