Bvlgari's largest exhibition in Japan, "Bvlgari Kaleidos: Color, Culture, Craft," opens at the National Art Center, Tokyo

Sep 18, 2025
Founded in Rome, Italy, over 140 years ago, Bvlgari has carved its name into the history of jewelry with its unparalleled sense of color and original designs. An exhibition tracing the brand's creative journey, "Bvlgari Kaleidos: Color, Culture, Craft," opened at the National Art Center, Tokyo (Roppongi, Tokyo) on September 17, 2025. This is the largest exhibition in Japan to date for Bvlgari, and brings together approximately 300 precious pieces of jewelry and contemporary art, centered around the theme of "color," the foundation of the brand.

Bvlgari aesthetics depicted through a kaleidoscope of color
The exhibition name "Kaleidos" comes from the Greek words for "beautiful" (kalos) and "form" (eidos). The intention is to project the unique beauty of color that Bvlgari has built up from multiple perspectives, like a kaleidoscope. The exhibition is divided into three chapters: "The Science of Color," "The Symbolism of Color," and "The Power of Light," and sheds light on how humanity has interacted with color through jewelry.

The exhibition will feature masterpieces that evoke Bvlgari's history, such as a rare bracelet from the 1940s, the transformable "Convertible Sautoir Bracelet," and the brand's signature "Seven Wonders" necklace. In addition, there will be installations by contemporary artists such as Mariko Mori, Lara Favaretto, and Akiko Nakayama, creating a space where past and present, and decorative arts and contemporary art, resonate with each other.

An extraordinary spatial experience at the National Art Center, Tokyo
The National Art Center, Tokyo, the setting for the exhibition, is characterized by its large, pillar-less space, designed by architect Kurokawa Kisho. Making the most of this characteristic, SANAA (Kazuyo Sejima, Ryue Nishizawa) and Forma Fantasma were responsible for the venue design. The exhibition space features repeated motifs of ginkgo leaves and the mosaic patterns of ancient Roman baths, creating a soft yet rhythmic composition. Set in the urban context of Roppongi, this symbolic space is a crossroads between Italy and Japan, the West and the East.

Bvlgari's Craftsmanship and Cultural Exchange
As CEO Jean-Christophe Babin says, "Color has a universal power that transcends countries and cultures and connects people," this exhibition embodies Bvlgari's spirit of craftsmanship and innovation, and is also an opportunity to celebrate cultural exchange between Japan and Italy. The way Western artistry and Eastern aesthetics resonate together in the city of Roppongi clearly demonstrates the "bold fusion" that lies at the heart of the brand.
