Kateigaho launches mail-order digital magazine in Taiwan

Sep 2, 2014

Sekai Bunka Publishing and SoftBank Technology have launched a Taiwanese version of Kateigaho called "J-Style," a lifestyle-focused, members-only online magazine available for smartphones and tablets.
Aimed at Taiwanese consumers, who account for the largest number of foreign tourists visiting Japan by country or region, J-Style provides information on Japanese scenery, food, and products recommended by Kateigaho. Products can be ordered immediately through the online shopping site and packaged and shipped within Japan.
The goal is to convey the overall appeal of Japan, including its lifestyle and culture, in addition to its excellent products and sales. In the future, the site plans to offer travel-themed tourist information, organize tours to experience Japan, and recruit participants for reader events already held by Kateigaho, the Kateigaho Academy, which invites lecturers on different themes, and the Kateigaho Food School, which teaches cooking and food culture.

The inaugural issue introduces Japanese jewelry using Akoya pearls and maki-e, moon-viewing products such as cut glass and noren curtains for the Mid-Autumn Festival, and a small plate set depicting Mt. Fuji.

First published in 1958, Kateigaho proposes a lifestyle based on the theme of "enjoying dreams and beauty." It features Japanese traditions from the tea ceremony and flower arranging to crafts and historical art, as well as the changing of the seasons, annual events, and overseas travelogues. Its mail-order business, Kateigaho Shopping Salon, has a 48-year history.
