Hearst Fujingaho Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo) launched a service on December 27th that allows customers who purchase books at 208 bookstores nationwide to view digital versions of their books for free. The service covers 19 titles (some of which are mook magazines). The digital versions can be read on tablets, smartphones, and PCs, and full-text search is also available. The company, which is pursuing a digital strategy, began distributing digital versions of magazines at the end of 2011, and in 2012, it established a system for distributing digital versions of all 12 of its periodicals. It launched the digital versions of "ELLE mariage" on the 12th and "ELLE Japon" on the 26th. Currently, all major periodicals are available in digital format. The aim is to improve reader convenience through digital versions of books and magazines and to increase the added value of "buying books in a bookstore" for bookstores. The following titles are eligible for this service.
