A special exhibition introducing the history of body-related products, "The History of Products Related to the Body," is running at the National Museum of Japanese History in Chiba Prefecture until December 18th.
From the late Meiji period, when industrialization was progressing, to the present day, a variety of new products have been created in line with the trends and perceptions of the body of people of the time. At the same time, there has been resistance to new change and a reexamination of the past, and it can be said that the perception of the body and design, which have repeatedly returned to tradition, have followed a very historical and cultural path.
This special exhibition focuses on the changes in aesthetic sense over time, from the prewar to postwar period, as seen in hygiene products such as soap, shampoo, and toothpaste. The exhibition explores how perceptions of the body have changed from the Taisho period to the 1980s, primarily through fashion, leisure, sports, hygiene, and beauty.
