Located in Fukagawa, Koto Ward, Tokyo, a five-minute walk from Monzen-Nakacho Station greets you with the striking, warm lighting of the Tanitaya entrance. This popular restaurant, which opened in 2014, offers a concept of "modern home cooking" and a relaxed atmosphere that combines attention to detail.
The menu focuses on Japanese-inspired dishes, and features Konkon, a sake from Hasamaya Brewery in Kurihara City, Miyagi Prefecture, a rare find in Tokyo. The menu ranges from classics like deep-fried chicken to unique creations like "reverse cabbage rolls," made with meat wrapped around cabbage. A variety of dishes are offered on an irregular basis, making it worth frequenting.
The restaurant also pays close attention to the lighting, carefully selecting everything from the counter and walls to the tableware to reflect light. This attention to detail evokes a sense of consideration and kindness, ensuring diners won't tire even after long stays and the food looks even more delicious. This restaurant is a testament to the unique attention to detail of lighting planner and owner Hiroe Tanida, who approaches food through the lens of light. Also, Tanitaya, celebrating its first anniversary this year, will be exhibiting "GLO-BALL," a work by renowned product designer Jasper Morrison, from October 27th to November 3rd. It will also be serving wines from Ormiale, a Bordeaux winemaker owned by Jasper Morrison. Tanitaya is currently the only restaurant in Japan offering Ormiale wines, so this is an opportunity not to be missed. Ormiale is a winemaker associated with the aforementioned Jasper Morrison, his longtime friend Fabrice Dominique, and product designer Marc Newson. During the event, Ormiale's vintages of 2008, 2010, and 2011 will be on offer. The store has eight counter seats and is open Tuesday to Saturday from 18:00 to 23:00 (last orders 22:00).
