With the completion of the New Prefectural Art Museum, this exhibition explores various issues surrounding public access, preservation, restoration, and restoration, which are fundamental to the very nature of museums. Tokyo University of the Arts has developed a technique for precisely restoring cultural properties, even their surrounding environments, by utilizing cutting-edge digital technology to "superclone" them. This exhibition displays "superclone cultural properties" that trace the eastward spread of Buddhism, from the cave temples of Bamiyan, Kizil, and Dunhuang to the Shaka Triad in the Golden Hall of Horyuji Temple. By displaying these properties in their surrounding environments, the exhibition offers an opportunity to consider from a new perspective the issues of preserving and displaying cultural properties that are at risk of extinction due to the rapid climate change caused by global warming and the intensification of regional conflicts.

[Dates] Saturday, April 10, 2021 - Sunday, June 6, 2021
[Admission Fee] Adults 1,400 yen, university students 1,200 yen, free for high school students and younger

◆Explore the New Museum's Everyone's Art Project

The new "Art Lab" will be established on the second floor. As a "lab" (experimental room) that exhibits works that can be appreciated using senses other than sight, it aims to be a place where anyone can drop in and make new discoveries.

For the "New Museum for Everyone's Art Project," we commissioned four artists - Kanabako Junichi, Nakahashi Katsushige, Nishimura Yohei, and Mitsushima Takayuki - to create original works specifically for "Art Lab." This exhibition will feature all of these works. Art that you can touch and feel. Enjoy viewing artworks in a different way than usual.

[Dates] Saturday, April 10, 2021 - Sunday, August 15, 2021
[Admission Fee] Free
[Venue] Collection Gallery, Art Lab

★About the "New Museum for Everyone's Art Project"
Utilizing the hometown tax donation system, this project creates new works to be exhibited in the free zone of the New Museum's main building. We will work together with everyone to create a place where art can be enjoyed using all of the senses, a place where even people without an interest in art can feel close to art.

◆New Museum Everyone's Art Project: Something there is that doesn't love a wall―Sumito Sakakibara x Euphrates

As a launch project for the "New Museum Everyone's Art Project" (video), we will be holding a screening exhibition of Sumito Sakakibara's "Iizunaana Chronicle" (working title) and Euphrates' "Single Line" (same title).
Building on the deep ties between Nagano Prefecture and visual media, the Prefectural Art Museum will also use its reopening as an opportunity to introduce photography, video, animation, and more. This project, which serves as a springboard for new endeavors, has seen the museum spend approximately two years commissioning work for a newly established "exchange space." The two animated works, which could be thought of as moving murals, will become a symbol of the "covered park" open to visitors.

[Dates] Saturday, April 10, 2021 - Sunday, August 15, 2021
[Admission Fee] Free [Venue] Exchange Space

◆The Town, Memories, and Landscapes Where the Museum is Located: 50 Years Seen Through a Map of Everyday Memory

The Open Gallery, located on the west side of the "Exchange Space" on the first floor of Nagano Prefectural Museum of Art, will regularly introduce ongoing creative activities, such as public productions by contemporary artists, introductions to community-based art projects being held in the prefecture, and making-of exhibits of commissioned works to be installed in the museum. For this first event, we welcomed Ayako Sato, who has developed her "Everyday Memory Map" method in various locations. This method involves interviewing people about their daily lives and memories of personal places, exploring the unique characteristics and history of each place. To reexamine the historic neighborhood surrounding Zenkoji Temple, where our museum is located, and the relationship between the people who live in this area and our museum, we interviewed them about their memories. By viewing the city through the eyes of others, you can discover previously unseen facets of the city and create your own unique vision of it. [Dates] Saturday, April 10, 2021 - Sunday, June 27, 2021 [Admission Fee] Free [Venue] Open Gallery Exhibition-related events, such as artist talks and lectures, are also planned.
