Skull-shaped tequila "KAH" arrives in Japan, perfect for the party season

Oct 22, 2014

Ahead of the party season, a unique tequila is being released, sure to captivate partygoers with its quirky appearance. The product name is "KAH," which means "life" in the Mesoamerican language (ancient pre-Hispanic civilization in Central America).

The striking three-color skull bottle is designed to resemble a calavera (skull), a symbol of death and rebirth, an essential part of Mexico's 3,000-year-old traditional festival, "Day of the Dead." While November is the "Month of the Dead" and various traditional events are held in each country, Mexico designates November 1st and 2nd as "Day of the Dead," where family and friends gather to remember the deceased and offer prayers.

During this time, gorgeously decorated altars called "ofrendas," decorated with sugar skulls, marigolds, and personal items, are set up in front of graves and around town. This stimulating bottle, inspired by the splendor of the ofrenda and the festival itself, contains 100% blue agave tequila. Crafted from agave grown in the Valles region of Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico.
For the exquisite combination of agave sweetness and spicy accents, try Car Blanco, a fresh, uncask-aged tequila. The black-on-white design of the blanco is inspired by the Bolivian custom of digging up the skulls of the deceased from their graves and offering them tequila and tobacco to protect the living from evil.
For a more alcoholic punch, try Car Debosado, featuring a fiery skull with a burning flame in its eye. This design is inspired by a festival held on the shores of Lake Titicaca in Peru, dedicated to the safety of miners working underground, a place said to be closest to the demonic realm.

Aged for two years in American oak barrels, the fragrant "Ca Añejo" is designed with the Nicaeagra custom in mind. The custom is to strengthen the spiritual connection with ancestors by resting peacefully on decorated graves, as the words "Rest in Peace" are engraved on tombstones.

The product will be available from November and will be available in restaurants and bars nationwide.
