Three flagship Mitsukoshi Isetan stores will be releasing three types of sake this fall under their "ONLY MI" line, featuring exclusive products. These offerings are targeted at the fashionable market, where people experience culture and the joy of enhancing their own intellect through the enjoyment of sake. With a focus on preserving the traditions of sake, the brand selected breweries with a long history of sake brewing. By incorporating new added value, such as label design, the products have been elevated to become masterpieces that will shape the future of sake. The main offering at Isetan Shinjuku is "Junmai Daiginjo Itoshima Yamada Nishiki" (2,500 yen) from Mori no Kura in Fukuoka Prefecture. The brewery, Kyushu's first all-junmai brewery, grows all its rice under contract in the Itoshima region near the Genkai Sea. Returning to the roots of sake brewing, the brewery, led by its master brewer, is involved in everything from seedling cultivation to harvesting, with the cooperation of farmers. Surrounded by sea and mountains, the Itoshima region has the perfect climate and topography for growing Yamadanishiki sake rice. In this environment, the brewery's master brewer, who has inherited the techniques of Mizuma's master brewers through four generations, crafts this exquisite bottle, exuding the deep bond between rice growers and brewers. The main product on offer at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi is "Junmai Daiginjo KIKUZUKUSHI" (5,000 yen) from Mie Prefecture's "Shimizu Seizaburo Shoten." The brewery, founded in 1869, wanted to "create a bottle that the local community could be proud of," so they collaborated with the local Ise Katagami brand, OKOSHI KATAGAMI, to create this impressive bottle, featuring a monochrome label featuring a "chrysanthemum motif," a motif long beloved as an auspicious motif, and a mechanically sealed bottle.
The Suzukagawa brand, established in 2004 with the desire to create a sake that the local community could be proud of, offers a Junmai Daiginjo sake made with meticulous small batch (600kg) brewing, featuring Yamadanishiki rice from the local Mie prefecture. It achieved the remarkable feat of winning the top gold award at the 2014 Delicious Sake in a Wine Glass Awards.
The main product on offer at Ginza Mitsukoshi is the "Kojibito Kuheiji 'K' -JYUKUSEI-2012-" (3,500 yen) by Banjo Brewery in Aichi prefecture. This rare sake is brewed using a special method using Yamadanishiki rice and aged for 12 months in old oak wine barrels imported from Burgundy.
The label design features an ukiyo-e print from the brewery's collection. The front label is written entirely in English, with foreign customers in mind. The product promotion period at the three stores will be from September 10th to the 16th. During this period, different events are planned at each store, including "Pairing with Kitcho's small dishes" at Isetan Shinjuku.
