For a limited six-day period from May 26th to May 31st, 2020, VMG HOTELS & UNIQUE VENUES will be selling "Strawberry Mille-feuille," a reproduction of Ginza's legendary dessert, "Napoleon Pie," in the Kansai region.
■What is Ginza Maxim's de Paris?
Ginza Maxim's de Paris is a restaurant opened in 1966 by the late Akio Morita, then president of Sony, with the aim of "creating a social venue for adults." Its authentic French cuisine, inspired by French influences, and its deep red interior color scheme attracted many adults, and it was a popular, prestigious restaurant in Ginza until its closure in 2015. One of its legendary desserts was the "Napoleon Pie." This dish is a thick pie sandwich filled with fragrant custard made with the orange liqueur Cointreau and plenty of strawberries, and was named after its resemblance to the shape of Napoleon's hat.

■Why was it re-released?
When we opened the lounge and restaurant "The Grand Ginza" at GINZA SIX (located in Chuo Ward, Tokyo) in April 2017, aiming to revive Ginza, we considered how we could somehow preserve Ginza's history, in keeping with our management philosophy of "weaving Japanese culture." We decided to revive Napoleon pie, a Ginza sweet that is synonymous with Ginza sweets and a favorite of everyone. For the re-release, we received guidance from Uemura Oki, the first pastry chef at Ginza Maxim's, and supervision from Tanaka Yasunori, who served as Ginza Maxim's manager for many years, to recreate the authentic taste.
■Sales locations in Kansai
For a limited period of six days, we will be selling the product as takeout, with pickup available at our restaurants in Kyoto and Hyogo. This marks our first time selling this product in the Kansai region, and as a Kansai company, we hope to bring a smile to the faces of the people of the Kansai region by offering delicious food.
