Shining mangoes! Hotel New Otani introduces a summer-only treat cake

At Hotel New Otani, pastry shop "Patisserie SATSUKI" will be selling the "New Extra Super Mango Shortcake," which uses luxurious domestic apple mangoes, which are in season in the summer, until mid-July 2020 (planned).

The "Extra Super Series" created by Grand Chef Nakajima Shinsuke is a series of exquisite sweets that are only available when the featured fruit is truly in season. The first release of summer 2020 is the "New Extra Super Mango Shortcake," made with a generous amount of rich domestic apple mango. In order to deliver truly delicious food to customers, there is no set sales period; our chef patissier rigorously checks the quality of the mangoes every morning, making this a summer-only delicacy that will end at the end of the season. Be sure to purchase early.

We use domestic apple mangoes, boasting an elegant aroma and high sugar content. You'll be amazed by the combination of melt-in-your-mouth mango, rich, smooth fresh cream, and light pastry.


【Commitment to Dough】
We use brown rice eggs, eggs from chickens raised on pesticide-free brown rice. Baked with brown rice eggs, the pastry achieves a soft, fluffy texture and a rich flavor, bringing out the full flavor of the mango.


【Commitment to Cream】
The mango is enveloped in pure white fresh cream made from almond milk, known for its beauty benefits and favored by celebrities overseas, and orange mango-flavored fresh cream. Enjoy the exquisite marriage of the faintly fragrant sweetness of almond milk and the mellow, rich flavor of mango.

The addition of juicy lychee captures the sparkling freshness of early summer. The mango and lychee on top of the cake are enhanced by kudzu with fresh passion fruit. ■What are the Super Series/Extra Super Series?


In 2004, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the opening of Hotel New Otani, Grand Chef Nakajima Shinsuke created the "Super Amaou Shortcake," paying meticulous attention to the ingredients and production method. This luxurious shortcake, which overturned existing concepts of sweets and cost only 1,200 yen per piece, became a hit product that sold out immediately. In 2014, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the hotel's opening, the "Extra Super Series" was born, using even more carefully selected ingredients as a "cake that surpasses the Super Shortcake." It became so popular as the ultimate souvenir cake that it became a signature cake that sold out by the evening every day. All of these cakes are made with the utmost care, and are discontinued once the main ingredients have passed their peak deliciousness.
