Shibuya Scramble Square, a new commercial complex directly connected to Shibuya Station, will open on November 1, 2019. We've compiled a list of Shibuya Scramble Square's noteworthy shops from a preview held for the media ahead of the grand opening.

This time, we'll be highlighting the food floor, which stretches from the second basement floor to the first floor, including sweets new to Japan, recommended bakeries, and delis.

What are some recommended sweets that make great souvenirs?

The first floor is the sweets floor. Thirty shops line the grounds, split between Tokyu Department Store's "Tokyu Food Show Edge" and Ecute Edition, a new format at the station-based Ecute shopping mall. Popular sweets shops have also opened, including a patisserie from Paris making its debut, as well as chocolate specialty shops by Echire and Alain Ducasse. We'll introduce some of the must-see shops.

Popular Parisian Patisserie Moriyoshida Makes Its Japan Debut

Patisserie Moriyoshida (MORI YOSHIDA), located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris and run by owner and pastry chef Morihide Yoshida, has opened its first Japanese store at Shibuya Scramble Square.

Among the sweets, known for their simplicity and deliciousness, the beautiful "Mont Blanc" with its spiral draping is a must-see. The center of this cake is a chantilly cake with chestnuts hidden inside, and the pâtafilo puff pastry base adds a special texture. This cake is exclusive to Shibuya Scramble Square, making it a one-of-a-kind experience.

Échiré's baked goods make their Shibuya debut, with a limited-edition canelé.

Échiré Pâtisserie au Beurre, which offers baked goods made with the French fermented butter Échiré, has opened its second store, following its location at Isetan Shinjuku. The store features a kitchen where freshly baked goods are served.

Among them, the buttery canelés, which are only available at Shibuya Scramble Square, are a must-try. The dough has a gentle flavor and is baked slowly.

Limited-edition desserts also available at Alain Ducasse's chocolate specialty store

LE CHOCOLAT ALAIN DUCASSE, which made headlines with the opening of its chocolate workshop in Nihonbashi, Tokyo.

Shibuya-exclusive chocolate cake "Foret Noir"
The Shibuya Scramble Square store, designed in the style of Tokyo Kobo, also has a salon with 12 seats. Foret Noir, a chocolate cake from the Alsace region, is available as a limited edition item. You can also enjoy soft serve ice cream made with plenty of chocolate, which is only available here in Tokyo. Of course, there is also a wide selection of popular tablet and bonbon chocolates.

The Magician of Taste, Philippe Conticini's New Store

Patischier Philippe Conticini, known in France as the "Magician of Taste," has opened his second store in Japan. Among his extensive lineup of cakes and baked goods, the Shibuya location will feature the "Brownie Magnifique" and "Cookies."

The brownie boasts a luxurious chocolate crust and unique texture, accented with a touch of salt. While the cookies are American-style, they boast a rich vanilla and chocolate aroma and deep flavor. It also makes a perfect gift.

Fructus: A New Store by Sangenjaya's Popular Patisserie

Fructus is a new business venture from Sangenjaya's incredibly popular patisserie, Plaisir. As a cake specialty store, they offer sweets that maximize the flavor of seasonal ingredients sourced from select farms and production areas.

Among their offerings, the "Fresh Mont Blanc" is a must-try. Made with a generous amount of original domestic chestnut paste, this Mont Blanc is both fresh and rich. The Shibuya Scramble Square-exclusive menu will also include original items such as "Egg," an egg-shaped cake, and a limited-edition special custard pie made with fresh cream from Tokachi Shinmura Farm.

Bakery and deli options are also plentiful, including stores making their first appearance in Japan

The first basement floor will house Gourmand Market KINOKUNIYA, a new branch of the upscale supermarket Kinokuniya. It will include a bakery and its first cafe-bar. The second basement floor will house Tokyu Food Show Edge, a lineup of delis and bakeries. Here are some noteworthy stores making their first appearance in Japan.

A Popular Parisian Boulangerie Makes its Japan Debut

Based on the concept of "tradition and innovation," the chef, who is also a Japanophile, offers a menu that fuses French tradition with uniquely Japanese flavors.

The "Bread Maki" roll sandwich, inspired by sushi rolls, is filling and popular at the Paris location. The extra-large "Brioche Feuilletée," measuring 17cm tall, is made with carefully selected domestic ingredients and baked for an airy finish. The store has an on-site kitchen, so you can enjoy freshly baked bread.

A Popular Local Taiwanese Restaurant Opens as a Deli

Popular Taiwanese creative restaurant, Sanwain, has made its Japanese debut as a takeout specialty restaurant at Shibuya Scramble Square.

Our original baozi, such as the "Pao Hedgehog" filled with plenty of roast pork, the "Pao Panda" filled with flavorful sesame paste, and the "Pao Mushroom Pink" filled with purple sweet potato paste, are cute yet delicious, making them perfect gifts.

Hawaii's Popular Vegan Cafe Now Opens as a Deli

Peace Cafe, the popular vegan cafe restaurant that topped Hawaii's cafe rankings, is making its Japanese debut as the deli Peace Cafe Hawaii at Shibuya Scramble Square.
