[Report] Japan's first Starbucks Reserve® Roastery, the world's fifth, opens in Nakameguro. Architectural design by Kengo Kuma.

Feb 27, 2019
Starbucks will open "Starbucks Reserve® Roastery Tokyo," a unique and innovative store in Nakameguro, Tokyo, at 7:00 AM on February 28th. This will allow customers to experience the roasting and brewing of coffee sourced from around the world with all five senses. The store will be Starbucks' fifth roastery in the world, following its launch in Seattle in 2014, Shanghai, Milan, and New York.

"Starbucks Reserve® Roastery" represents Starbucks' uncompromising coffee innovation. The store will offer a carefully crafted cup of coffee, from roasting to brewing using various methods, as well as information about coffee and bread from Italian bakery Princi®. In addition to other products, the store will also offer coffee.

The newly opened Starbucks Reserve® Roastery Tokyo will be a place that expresses Japanese craftsmanship and the culture of "omotenashi." The store's architecture was designed in collaboration with architect Kengo Kuma and a design team led by Starbucks Chief Design Officer Liz Muller. The exterior design pays homage to the natural beauty of Japan, using the brightly colored cedar wood for a veranda-inspired terrace seating. The interior design features an origami-inspired ceiling and a cask decorated with 2,100 cherry blossom petals, representing the fluttering of cherry blossoms along the Meguro River.
