Aman, the luxury resort hotel chain, will open its third Aman in Japan, Aman Kyoto, on November 1st. A private resort with 26 guest rooms will be born in the northern part of Kyoto.

North of Kyoto, at the foot of the Takagamine Sanzan mountain range, stretching from Mt. Hidari Daimonji, lies a beautiful, forgotten forest and garden that will be reborn as Aman Kyoto. Lying across a varied landscape along the Kamiya River, this land is a secluded haven where the previous owner cultivated a garden over the years, dreaming of creating a textile museum. The Takagamine district, within walking distance of Kinkaku-ji Temple, is known for being the home of Hon'ami Koetsu, the founder of the Rinpa school of Japanese painting, and for its flourishing as an art village in the early Edo period. Dotted with renowned temples with beautiful teahouses and gardens, such as Koetsu-ji Temple, Genko-an Temple, and Joshoji Temple, it's an ideal location for immersing yourself in Kyoto's art and culture.
The building, designed by Kerry Hill Architects, the same firm behind Aman Tokyo and Amanemu, features minimalist architecture that was designed to preserve the delicate beauty of the natural gardens. The property boasts a site area of approximately 24,000 square meters, including a natural forest. The property is dotted with approximately 320,000 square meters of land, including an arrival building, a living building (with all-day dining), a restaurant building (Japanese cuisine), a spa building, four accommodation buildings with 24 guest rooms, and two buildings each with two-bedroom villas.

Each of the 26 guest rooms follows the traditions of Japanese inns while elevating them to a modern level, paying utmost respect to the natural scenery. All furniture and lighting are custom-made for Aman Kyoto, and the craftsmanship found in each space reflects refined Japanese aesthetics and creativity. The forest views seen through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the tranquil space comprised of tatami mats and a tokonoma alcove, and the cypress baths invite you to a relaxing, extraordinary experience amid the gentle passage of time in the ancient capital.
Of the two dining facilities, the signature restaurant in the restaurant building serves beautiful Japanese cuisine made with carefully selected seasonal ingredients from Kyoto. The all-day dining restaurant, which features a fireplace and views of the garden from the open terrace, offers a variety of dishes, from Western cuisine to afternoon tea, Kyoto-style obanzai meals and tea, as well as outdoor picnics with light snacks served in bamboo baskets. The property's charming open space can also be used for private dining and wedding events, creating a special and memorable experience. The Aman Spa, which features natural hot springs that well up nearby, offers excellent treatments using natural ingredients that have long been loved by Japanese people, including Uji tea, Tamba black beans, local sake, cold-pressed camellia oil, Kibiso cocoons, and gold leaf. Yoga, meditation, and other exercises are also available in the garden's open space.

In early summer, the green of the autumn leaves is a scorching sight, while in autumn the leaves turn a beautiful red. The landscape created by the hideaway-like modern architecture of Aman Kyoto and the garden that remains dignified through time embodies the essence of Kyoto's proud beauty, which respects the old and incorporates the new.
In this tranquil place that makes the most of nature's pristine environment, why not experience the deeper charm of this ancient capital that only Aman can offer?
