LADER, a shop selling everyday items, mainly kitchenware, is located in a corner of an alley not far from Nijo Castle in Kyoto. Pleasant light pours in through the large windows, and a variety of items, including cutlery, cooking utensils, and sponges, are neatly displayed inside the store.

The store was previously located on the second floor of a building in Higashikujo, Kyoto, but moved and opened at its current location in July 2017. Due to the nature of the items it sells, its main customer base is female, and many customers come with strollers, so the first-floor location was also a deciding factor in opening in this location.



The items lined up in the store are not only comfortable to use, but are also selected based on whether they are made from long-lasting materials and are easy to care for, and on the criterion of "whether or not they are items that you would want to have in your home." Rather than designs that are too unique, it is also important to choose beautiful designs that harmonize with other items when placed next to them.

They are particular about the pricing of each item, and will purchase items that you only need one of, such as laundry baskets and cutting boards, even if they are a little more expensive, and for items that you need in multiples, such as storage containers, they are conscious of keeping costs down so that you can easily buy a collection.



Each item they carry is accompanied by a comment from the customer detailing their experience after using it. "I choose beautiful but unremarkable designs, so at first glance it's hard to tell what's so great about them. That's why I chose them, thinking that I needed to put into words why I selected them and what makes them so great," says store owner Hashimoto. Reading his comments, one can sense the appeal of the items, which are born from integrating them into everyday life.


In addition, there's a test sink at the back of the store, where customers can actually touch and feel some of the products.

After wondering, "What makes good cutlery?" and researching various cutlery, he decided he wanted to actually test the feel of the spoon in his mouth. "We have food samples and clothing try-ons, so why don't we have tool try-ons?" This idea led to the creation of a trial booth so you can clarify any concerns you may have before purchasing.
