PIERRE HERMÉ PARIS has collaborated with leading silverware brand Christofle to create two Galette des Rois, the new Galette Medelis and the classic Galette aux Amandes, perfect for kicking off 2019. Reservations will begin on December 1st. They will be available in stores from December 30th until January 20th, 2019.
Galette Médélice (approx. 18cm, 4,104 yen including tax)
Galette des Rois is a traditional French pastry that has been passed down since the 14th century and is eaten on the day celebrating "Epiphany." Epiphany, on January 6th, is a traditional event enjoyed by families as they harmoniously enjoy sweets. It is said that whoever finds the figurine called a "fève" hidden inside the Galette des Rois will become a king or princess for the day, place a crown on their partner, and share their happiness, with that good fortune lasting for a year.
For this year's Galette des Rois 2019, Pierre Hermé Paris has collaborated with Christofle. The design of the special fève, limited to 2019 and included with each Galette, imitates the sterling silver ring from "Idole," the first jewelry collection created by Christofle's beloved French designer, André Putman.
"Idole," with its deliberately asymmetrical simple outlines, was launched by Christofle in 2005 and remains a popular collection to this day. The ring-shaped fève, a symbol of promise and eternity, is engraved with "PIERRE HERMÉ Christofle" and "2019" on both sides.
And now, as a special commemorative project, 10 people will be given a medal-shaped fève engraved with the words "Christofle x PIERRE HERMÉ." Winners of the medal-shaped fève will receive a business card tray from Christofle's "Vertigo" collection designed by André Putman. They can collect their gift by bringing the enclosed exchange ticket to a participating Christofle store.

The Galette des Rois, sold with a 2019 limited-edition fève and crown, features a perfect, crispy reverse-folded puff pastry that contrasts well with the soft almond cream.
In addition to the classic "Galette aux Amandes" (approx. 18 cm, 3,672 yen including tax), the new "Galette Médélice" (approx. 18 cm, 4,104 yen including tax) is a fusion of golden brown pâté feuillete, lemon almond cream, and praline feuillete. The tartness of the lemon brings out the aroma of roasted Piedmont hazelnuts, while the crispy pâté feuillete complements the crunchy praline to create an exciting taste sensation. It is also garnished with a silver macaron coque reminiscent of Christofle silverware.
The two Galette des Rois are available at Pierre Hermé Paris Aoyama and other directly managed boutiques. The online boutique only accepts advance orders for in-store pickup at the Aoyama store.
