Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura Tokyo has begun selling two original panettone treats exclusive to Japan for the 2022 holiday season.

Widely enjoyed in Italy during the holiday season, panettone is a traditional Italian fermented pastry baked in a dome shape and filled with a variety of dried fruits. Based on Gucci Osteria's concept of preserving Italian traditions and food culture while evolving in select cities around the world, the Japan-exclusive panettone is based on two original recipes created by Gucci Osteria Tokyo's head chef, Antonio Iacoviello. The recipes incorporate memories of his hometown, Italy, as well as inspiration from Japanese ingredients and winter scenery.

One of them is the "Tangerine and Chocolate Panettone," which is baked with chocolate ganache and mandarin peel kneaded into the dough. Instead of using Sicilian mandarins, a classic Italian dried fruit, in orangettes (candied oranges covered in chocolate), Japanese mandarins are used to create a subtle sweetness with a refreshing aftertaste.

The other is the "Yuzu, Almond and White Chocolate Panettone," which uses Japanese yuzu to express the image of the lemon and almond sweets that Head Chef Antonio has been familiar with since childhood. The white chocolate coated top is sprinkled with almonds, allowing you to enjoy a harmony of textures and flavors.

Both come in specially designed packaging featuring an illustration of a garden filled with lovely flowers and greenery. They are perfect for sharing with family and close friends, or as gifts for the holiday season.
