Encounter Japanese Techniques at the Event

Center Park/The Stage #5 will host "Japonisme: Emmanuel Sammartino Weaves French Spirit and Traditional Japanese Beauty" from October 31st to November 6th. To commemorate 160 years of friendship between Japan and France, this event will feature art direction by top French makeup artist and renowned florist Emmanuel Sammartino, showcasing traditional Japanese crafts, including Kamakura carving and Nishijin weaving, proposing a new style for traditional Japanese crafts. Niyodo, a long-established Kamakura carving maker with a tradition of approximately 800 years, has released a new brand, niyodo design, which, together with brand designer Mitsuhashi Kamayu, has created a line of beautiful pieces that incorporate French culture using techniques passed down since the Kamakura period. They will be releasing clutch bags using traditional French haute couture embroidery and pendants created in collaboration with Emmanuelle.

A collaborative pendant between niyodo design and Emmanuelle: "Médaillon Marie" (45,000 yen) *Chain sold separately

Accessory brand Matsuyoi will be showcasing an innovative corsage created by Emmanuelle and popular artist Yukiko Harada. The corsage uses fabric woven specially for this event by KYOGO, a Kyoto Nishijin textile manufacturer with one of the oldest histories among Japan's traditional crafts, and its beautiful and delicate appearance is captivating.

Nabeshima Dantsu, a rug woven using traditional techniques in Saga City, Saga Prefecture, will be unveiling a premium carpet that reproduces a pattern actually used in the late Edo period. The defining feature of Nabeshima Dantsu is that it is made entirely from cotton, and carpets made entirely from cotton, from warp and weft to interwoven threads, are said to be extremely rare even around the world. Carpets that have been revived from the Edo period to the present day have been beautifully elevated into sophisticated rugs that match a modern worldview.
