"Meguro River Everyone's Illuminations 2018," where you can enjoy winter cherry blossoms® illuminated with approximately 400,000 cherry blossom-colored LEDs, will be held from November 9th to January 6th, 2019.

As the only illuminations in Tokyo created by citizen action, "Everyone's Illuminations" is vividly embodied by the unity of "people, companies, and the community." This event, which began with the hope of instilling a sense of attachment and pride among local residents in their town, is fast becoming a winter tradition that fosters "bonds" within the town as it uses 100% locally produced energy for illuminations, recycling used cooking oil collected from local homes and restaurants to generate electricity. Last year, approximately 5,500 liters of used cooking oil were collected from 12 locations, including nearby apartment buildings and restaurants, and all electricity was provided by generators installed at the venue. This year, used cooking oil collected from nearby areas will be recycled into biodiesel fuel, and the illuminations will be lit using 100% self-generated power.
This year, the 9th annual event will be held simultaneously with Shinagawa Ward, creating a "winter cherry blossom" effect using approximately 400,000 cherry blossom-colored LEDs. The illuminations along the sidewalks along the Meguro River stretch for a total of approximately 2.2 km, making them the largest within the Yamanote Line, reflecting beautiful sparkles on the river's surface.

The German-made "Garden Igloo," a popular spot for viewing winter cherry blossoms® last year, will be back this year. Three garden igloos with different interiors will be set up from November 22nd to December 26th. Measuring 3.6m in diameter, 2.2m in height, and covering an area of 10㎡, they are a relaxing space and are resistant to wind and rain, allowing you to enjoy winter cherry blossoms® in the park without worrying about the weather.
Last year, the event was featured in multiple international media outlets, including China, Korea, and the UK. Additionally, the "Meguro River Everyone's Illuminations" won the silver award at the "A' Design Award 2017," an international design competition held annually in Italy.
