Shinjuku Isetan is full of popular sweets, including revivals and new take on classic items! [Sweets Edition]

Aug 25, 2017
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the renovation of the food floor on the basement floor of the main building of Isetan Shinjuku, the Food Famous Shops Association's Thanksgiving Festival will be held from August 23rd to September 5th. In addition to the return of sweets that were sadly discontinued for a limited time, many classic items that have been brushed up especially for this event will also be available. We asked Mr. Kanaya, who is in charge of the food floor, to share his top 5 recommended sweets.

Pâtisserie Sadaharu Aoki Paris Saya
01
¥825 per piece

"Saya, named after Mr. Aoki's daughter, is a cake that Mr. Aoki feels very attached to. We've recreated it in the same form as when it was created 10 years ago, and are selling it with an even more refined flavor than the original," says Kanaya. This dome-shaped cake, featuring a refreshing strawberry mousse and adorned with tiny macarons, promises to offer a unique experience of the world of Sadaharu Aoki, a world that's different from the chocolate.

Chez Cima Black Fig Savarin
01
¥600 each (Limit 10 per day)

"We've revived this Chez Cima Savarin in response to customer requests. Made with Havana Club rum and topped with chunks of black figs, it's a rich, sophisticated flavor." The combination of fragrant rum and rich black figs is sure to be a hit with women.

Suzukake O-Suzu Basket
01
O-Mochi and Suzuno Monaka × 5 each / ¥1,450 (Limited to 20 per day)

Suzukake's O-Mochi features a chewy, springy O-Mochi branded with a bell. "We have our own original branding, and we've prepared a set that includes O-Mochi with this branding and Suzuno Monaka, all packaged in a basket," says Kanaya. Enjoy the slightly different flavor of this long-established shop, with the branding giving it a slightly different feel. (Branding is usually an additional service. Please contact the Suzukake staff for details.)

Meister Juchheim Glückspringer
01
¥2,000 per piece

"This adorable ladybug-shaped raspberry and white chocolate mousse cake has finally been re-released! Ladybugs are considered a symbol of happiness in Europe, so they make a great celebratory cake," says Kanaya. Its striking appearance is sure to make for a memorable anniversary.

Ginza Kimuraya Sakadane Golden Anno Sweet Potato
01
¥200 per piece

"Anpan Kimuraya has specially created this anpan, featuring a sticky anno sweet potato paste wrapped in sake yeast. Made with plenty of high-sugar anno sweet potatoes and adorned with gold flakes, this luxurious treat is a masterpiece." It's easy to eat, so it makes a great gift. It's also recommended for those who want to enjoy the flavors of autumn a little early!
