Sapporo Marui Mitsukoshi begins large-scale remodeling to revitalize the Odori area

Jul 11, 2014

Sapporo Marui Mitsukoshi began a large-scale remodeling project in June, including environmental improvement work, at the Marui Imai Sapporo Main Store and the Mitsukoshi Sapporo Store.

The remodeling aims to leverage the strengths of the "Marui Imai" and "Mitsukoshi" noren (traditional Japanese store names) to enhance the appeal of each store as a unique department store, provide value in line with the store's concept, and contribute to the revitalization of the Odori area.

Mitsukoshi's concept is "a specialty department store loved by adults (your Mitsukoshi)." It offers services and proposals to a wide range of customers who enjoy lifestyles based on their own values, both for special occasions and everyday life, deepening relationships and increasing the number of fans. It also aims to increase its customer attraction by taking advantage of its location at the Odori 4-chome intersection, a "town for adults."

Marui Imai pursues the "real needs of Hokkaido residents" under the concept of a "comprehensive department store that is close to the people of Hokkaido." Based on tastes and sensibilities, the store aims to be a place that can be used by three generations of parents and children by proposing new fashion and seasonal information, and by offering products and services that suit Hokkaido's unique food, clothing, and housing culture, history, climate, and seasons.

Construction has already begun in various locations, starting with the relocation and opening of the Ichijo Building sports department on August 5th, followed by the opening of the Marui Imai West Building (tentative name) in early November and the relocation and opening of Louis Vuitton. After this, the first phase is scheduled to open in the spring of 2015 and the second phase in the fall of the same year.
