Sapporo Akarenga Terrace to open 27 stores. Local favorites, Hakodate confectioneries, and other Hokkaido representative shops will be gathered.

May 28, 2014

The stores that will open at Akarenga Terrace, a commercial facility within the Sapporo Mitsui JP Building (2-4-1 Kita, Chuo-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido), which opens on August 28th, have been decided.

A total of 27 stores will open, including five stores opening in Hokkaido for the first time and 12 stores in new business formats. A new dining style called Bar Terrace will be located on the third floor, and six stores that represent Sapporo will be opening, including popular local restaurant Chinese Restaurant Hotei and miso ramen specialty restaurant Keyaki's Bistro Japonais, where they will serve a la carte dishes and deep-fried skewers in the evening. New types of restaurants representing Hokkaido will also open, including YOSHIMI CAFE, which serves vegetable dishes and pancakes at casual prices; Peche Grand, an authentic dining cafe and restaurant by Hakodate's French pastry shop Peche Mignon; and Tsuruga Buffet Dining Sapporo, a buffet restaurant by the Tsuruga Group, which operates 11 accommodation facilities in Hokkaido. Other sophisticated establishments include Ristorante Il Centro Hiramatsu, where you can enjoy Italian cuisine made with seasonal Hokkaido ingredients while overlooking the red brick government building and which also accommodates wedding parties; Brooklyn Parlor SAPPORO, a cafe and restaurant produced by Blue Note Tokyo; and Tsubaki Salon & The Nikka Bar, which serves pancakes made with Hokkaido ingredients during the day and transforms into a bar with a wide selection of whiskeys in the evening.

On the first floor facing Sapporo's Kita 3-jo Plaza, an "open terrace" consisting of an open-air cafe and bar will be located, creating a sense of unity with the plaza. An "underground terrace" furnished with tables and chairs will be installed at the underground entrance, which connects to "Chi-Ka-Ho," an underground pedestrian space in front of Sapporo Station that is used by approximately 80,000 people per day. Five other terraces will appear within the facility: the "atrium terrace," which will let in natural light from the atrium, the "observation terrace" overlooking the Red Brick Government Building, and the aforementioned "bar terrace." The interior design was handled by Taku Shimizu, who has worked on projects such as "Tokyo Midtown" and "Mitsui Outlet Park Sapporo Kitahiroshima." Natural materials such as "brick" and "wood" that match the history and landscape of the area will be incorporated to create a comfortable urban oasis.
