Sogo & Seibu launches new sales area for career women. Yasuto Shiezumi also announces new brand.

Jul 11, 2014

This fall, Sogo & Seibu will launch "honeycomb mode," a newly developed sales floor targeting career women aged 25 to 30. The floor features icons representing celebrities from various fields, including clothing, food, and housing. Aiming to be a "new lifestyle store unlike any other department store," the floor offers a full range of lifestyle products, with 40% fashion-related items and 60% non-fashion items like interior design and books. Trending young celebrities, including model Hana Matsushima and calligrapher Shishu, will be developing and creating the fashion section, interior design by select buyer Takuma Nitta, and book director Shuhei Mita, respectively. The 90-square-meter sales floor will feature a central kitchen selling green smoothies and other beverages, catering to the younger generation, who place a premium on food as a social gathering spot. The main price points are women's clothing at ¥15,000, women's accessories at ¥10,000, and interior design items at ¥5,000. The Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store is scheduled to open on September 5th, the Sogo Yokohama Store on September 9th, and the Sogo Chiba Store on September 12th. Also announced is the reopening of "Comporax," a women's import clothing select shop at the Seibu Shibuya Store, in early September. As the store is often visited by couples, the store will also feature men's brands such as "CARVEN," "KENZO," "rag & bone," and "Alexander Wang," transforming it into a combined men's and women's shop. The sales floor will be designed by the design group "nendo," led by Oki Sato. Furthermore, "Lyricist by YE," a new brand by designer Yasutoshi Esumi, who recently won the 6th DHL Designer Award, will be available for pre-sale at the Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store, Shibuya Store, Sogo Yokohama Store, and Sogo Chiba Store from the end of August. The concept is different from "Distil Vannes by YASUTOSHI EZUMI," a collaboration with Sogo & Seibu that features artwork-inspired clothing, and the brand offers real clothes with a modern sensibility targeted at women in their 20s. By streamlining the manufacturing process and using innovative fabric cutting techniques, the brand aims to offer a price range that is affordable for younger generations. The main prices are 49,000 yen for coats, 26,000 yen for dresses, 16,000 yen for tops, and 18,000 yen for bottoms.
