Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi to release "Goldfish Jelly" and "3D Printed Lion Sweets" as souvenirs for returning home

Aug 1, 2014

Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store will be introducing "Nihonbashi-exclusive" souvenirs for a limited time this summer, until August 18th, aimed at people returning home for the Obon holiday and domestic and international tourists.

In March of this year, new commercial facilities "COREDO Muromachi 2" and "COREDO Muromachi 3" opened in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. Popular restaurants and a multiplex cinema are housed within the complex. Since their opening, Nihonbashi visitors have expanded to include couples, families, and other demographics not seen in previous years. According to a Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi PR representative, the number of visitors to the store has increased 115% year-on-year, thanks in part to the synergistic effect of the opening of COREDO Muromachi.

In anticipation of demand for Nihonbashi souvenirs and summer gifts for these customers, the store is proposing exclusive sweets and miscellaneous goods. This summer, the store is promoting goldfish-themed souvenirs under the theme of "Summer Chic, Refreshing to the Eyes," focusing on the underwater art exhibition "Art Aquarium" (COREDO Muromachi Mitsui Hall), which attracted 500,000 people last year and has now attracted a total of over 3 million visitors.

Soke Minamoto Kitchoan's Goldfish (2,000 yen) is a refreshing Japanese-style jelly with a goldfish looking cool and refreshing floating in the fruity-scented jelly. Kameya Yoshinaga's Summer Festival (750 yen) uses amber jelly to depict a waterscape with goldfish floating in it. Kitaya Rokuninshu's Red Bebe (900 yen) features a red goldfish standing in the water as if it were about to swim out at any moment. Additionally, ROKKAN's Poibumi (520 yen) is a summer greetings message card that comes with a goldfish scooping poi paper and a transparent envelope designed to resemble a bag.

The store will also be introducing souvenirs exclusive to Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi, with themes of "unique to Nihonbashi" and "unique to Mitsukoshi." Tsuchiya's Ifu Momo (325 yen each) recreates the Mitsukoshi lion statue using a 3D printer. Five flavors are available, including amber jelly with gold leaf, red yokan, white chocolate yokan, red bean yokan, and matcha yokan. Sazae Foods' Road Origin Marker Oyaki (131 yen each) is filled with soy milk cream and custard-flavored cream and has the "Japan National Road Origin Marker" stamped on it. Shinjuku Nakamuraya's Nihonbashi Mooncake Assortment (1,100 yen) is a set of mooncakes with designs of a smiling lion (red bean paste), a road milestone (nut paste), and Nihonbashi (pineapple paste).
