The goldfish underwater art exhibition "ECO EDO Nihonbashi Art Aquarium 2014 - Coolness of Edo Goldfish - & Night Aquarium" will be held at Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, from July 11th to September 23rd.
Since its launch in 2011, the exhibition attracted 500,000 visitors last year. It continues to evolve each year, presenting a new worldview with elaborate presentations and a variety of new works. This year, the aquarium, designed with a Japanese motif, will feature the latest production techniques such as LED lighting and projection mapping. Music and scents will also be added, making this an exhibition where visitors can experience "coolness" and "Japanese beauty" with all five senses.
The theme is "Coolness of Edo Goldfish." Goldfish, which first became popular in Nihonbashi during the Edo period and have long been beloved by Japanese people, will be spotlighted. Approximately 5,000 goldfish, including rare varieties, will dance gracefully in an underwater space brimming with Edo atmosphere.
The fantastical space is created by Hidetomo Kimura, a leading figure in the "Art Aquarium" genre, which combines "aquarium" and "art." During the event, "Night Aquarium" will be held every day from 7pm, where you can enjoy the Art Aquarium with an original "Goldfish Cocktail," mojito, or beer. In addition, there will be a special event called "Geisha Night" on the weekends, where you can enjoy live music and DJ performances, as well as the dancing and fun of geisha.
