Hakuten Inc., which designs corporate communication through the creation of experiential value, is working with Shiseido Co., Ltd. on a project that starts with window art at Shiseido's Ginza office, visualizing the ecology of Ginza from various perspectives and considering what a sustainable society could be. Ginza is where Shiseido was founded, and through this project, in collaboration with our company, which has its headquarters in the same area, we aim to revitalize communication that connects us to the community.

Project Background and Intention
The COVID-19 pandemic has restricted many economic activities, but on the other hand, there have also been positive aspects, such as the fact that global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in 2020 were down approximately 5.8% compared to the previous year (announced by the International Energy Agency (IEA)). This fact may provide an opportunity to shift our paradigm when considering the shape of society after COVID-19.
Is it enough to simply return to our previous lifestyles? What is a sustainable society? This project seeks to find clues for the future by looking again at the familiar ecological cycles of the district of Ginza.

We will disseminate information about the ecology of Ginza through fieldwork with various people surrounding Ginza and window art at the Shiseido Ginza office. The project is divided into three phases - [Early], [Middle] and [Late] - to coincide with the changeover of window displays that takes place throughout the year, allowing visitors to discover, observe and create Ginza from various perspectives.
*Currently, the first half of the "Ginza Ecology Map GINZA ASSEMBLAGE MAP" is on display.

[First Half] GINZA ASSEMBLAGE MAP
Exhibition Period: April to Late August 2021
Exhibition Location: Shiseido Ginza Office (7−5−5 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo)

The window art will observe the ecology of Ginza from various perspectives throughout the year and present three-dimensional collages (ASSEMBLAGE) of collected samples. In the first half of the exhibition, we focused on the plants (street trees, stray flowers, etc.) and organisms that live in Ginza, discovered through fieldwork and ecological surveys of the Ginza area.

For this window art, plants and flowers actually collected on the street have been transferred and dried to highlight the distinctive leaf veins. In addition, various crafts such as bird carvings and the growth patterns of plants discovered on the street have been combined to create a lifelike display of their ecology.
In addition, 72 sections around Ginza have been set out, and each exhibit combines the location where the items were collected and their relationship to Ginza's history, allowing visitors to learn about the various stories of Ginza.

Behind the window art, the trajectory of this fieldwork is on display. Visitors are free to pick up and examine the fieldwork research photos and ecological survey materials that formed the basis for the window production, dyed washi paper made from plants examined in the process of making the window, and small jars of trees and flowers that were collected.
