The exhibition "Children and Fashion: A Look at Little People" will be held from April 23 to June 5 at the Kobe Fashion Museum in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture.
For a long time in Europe, children were treated as "incomplete, small adults." However, in the mid-18th century, special attention began to be paid to children, and children's clothing, which had previously been made like miniature versions of adult clothing, began to be designed specifically to accommodate children's physical and psychological development. By the late 19th century, unique styles began to emerge.
This exhibition focuses on the birth of European children's clothing in the late 18th century and its subsequent evolution. Furthermore, by tracing the diverse representations of children in paintings, prints, and photographs, centered on Japanese children's clothing from the Meiji period onward, the exhibition offers a renewed appreciation of the changing perception of children over time.
As a related event, a lecture titled "Lanvin Children's Clothing - From Mother to Daughter" will be held from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm on May 7th, and a workshop titled "Have fun dressing up with fashion plates!" will be held from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on May 14th and 21st. Gallery talks by curators will also be held from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm on April 29th and May 22nd.
