Second-hand clothing store Dept. opens second store in Harajuku Vacant. Kids' items also available.

Aug 14, 2015

On August 29th, DEPT announced the opening of its second store, "DEPT@VACANT," at VACANT (1F, 3-20-13 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) in Harajuku, Tokyo. Dept opened its predecessor in San Francisco in 1980, moved to New York in 1982, and then moved to Tokyo, expanding throughout Japan. Its unique blend of cultures attracted the attention of artists and others. However, following founder Seiji Nagai's retirement, the store closed in 2011, much to the regret of many fans. After about four years, the founder's daughter, Eri, revived Dept in Nakameguro, Tokyo, in April of this year. DEPT@VACANT, the second store, will offer men's and women's vintage clothing, original items, and new children's items. The lineup includes tops made from used sweatshirts that have been dyed unevenly, deadstock German turtleneck tops, and leather items hand-painted by eri. Additionally, on the opening day, customers who spend over 15,000 yen will receive a free T-shirt with the Dept. logo embroidered on a first-come, first-served basis.
