TRUNK(HOTEL) releases its first original label wine in collaboration with the neo-kakuuchi liquor store "no.501"

Release Date:2021.03.10
Feb 26, 2021
TRUNK(HOTEL), a boutique hotel in Jingumae, Shibuya Ward, will be collaborating for the first time with no.501, a neo-corner bar/restaurant in Gaienmae, to release a limited edition of 200 bottles of original-label natural wine, "TINY BLUE TRUCK 2020 (Blue Light Truck 2020) TRUNK(HOTEL) Limited Edition," from March 10th.

A wine that embodies TRUNK(HOTEL)'s slogan of "socializing"
"TINY BLUE TRUCK 2020 (Blue Light Truck 2020) TRUNK(HOTEL) Limited Edition" is made using grapes grown at a comprehensive support facility for people with disabilities in Hiroshima Prefecture and vinified at the Okayama Prefecture winery "domaine tetta."

"TINY BLUE TRUCK" was born when Mr. Bito, the owner of "no. 501," a neo-corner bar and restaurant in Gaienmae that sells natural wines, happened to learn about the activities of this support facility for people with disabilities. This project, which actively supports Hiroshima Prefecture, which is suffering from depopulation, and promotes the social inclusion of people with disabilities, resonates deeply with TRUNK(HOTEL)'s life-sized social contribution initiative, "socializing." As a result, the two companies are releasing a limited edition series with an original label as their first collaboration bottle. The original TRUNK(HOTEL) label features outsider art by artist Toshio Okamoto of Yamanami Kobo, an art-focused welfare facility in Koka City, Shiga Prefecture, featuring a bold, newly drawn illustration of a "blue light truck." A portion of the sales of the "TINY BLUE TRUCK 2020 TRUNK(HOTEL) Limited Edition" will be donated through "no.501" to support facilities for people with disabilities and other depopulated local communities.

A mellow, pale garnet-colored 2020 vintage
The 2020 vintage is made from grapes harvested from three vineyards in Hiroshima Prefecture, including a facility for supporting people with disabilities in Yamato-cho, Mihara City, a farm that practices completely natural cultivation without pesticides or fertilizers, and a field where headwater grapes are grown using spring water.

The grapes were transported to "domaine tetta" in Okayama Prefecture in the wine's iconic blue pickup truck and fermented using a blend of 60% Muscat Bailey A, 30% Semillon, and a variety of other white and black grapes.

When poured into a glass, the slightly cloudy garnet color casts a soft luster, and along with the refreshing aroma of strawberries and raspberries, the fresh fruit and light tannins spread throughout the mouth, creating an exquisite balance of gentle acidity and just the right amount of astringency.

Unique to natural wines, this wine is made without the use of any sulfites and is bottled while retaining a small amount of carbon dioxide generated during the grape fermentation process with wild yeast, allowing you to enjoy a robust effervescence immediately after opening the bottle. Furthermore, after allowing it to settle slowly over time, the flavor deepens, making it delicious as a still wine*.
*Due to the manufacturing process unique to natural wines, individual bottles may vary.

A taste to enjoy with your favorite food, at any time
The TRUNK(HOTEL) original label will be available by bottle order or by the glass* at the hotel's main lounge TRUNK(LOUNGE), main dining TRUNK(KITCHEN), and kushiyaki restaurant TRUNK(KUSHI). From early spring to early autumn, when people spend more time on the terrace, this is a bottle that can be enjoyed with a variety of dishes, both Japanese and Western, to suit a variety of occasions, such as brunch, an aperitif, or dinner. At TRUNK(HOTEL), we recommend TRUNK(KITCHEN)'s popular appetizer, "Shirasu Ajillo and Fruit Tomato Salad Genovese," and TRUNK(KUSHI)'s signature dish, "Tsukuten," as recommended food pairings.
*At the kushiyaki restaurant TRUNK(KUSHI), only bottle orders are available.

At the concept store TRUNK(STORE), you can purchase bottles as souvenirs, and to commemorate the release of this collaboration bottle, we will be selling a limited number of smartphone cases featuring illustrations by Toshio Okamoto of Yamanami Kobo, who created the original label.

The bar partners growers and winemakers with artists, and introduces around 800 to 1000 varieties of rare wines made using more natural methods, both domestic and international. The bar space at the back of the store always has around 10 types of wine by the glass available to go with carefully selected dishes. Pairings can also be enjoyed. ◆What is Atelier Yamanami?
Founded in 1986 as the "Yamanami Collaborative Workshop" in Konan Town, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture, Atelier Yamanami is now a multi-purpose facility for people with disabilities, with 88 attendees divided into various groups. In each group, each individual works on activities tailored to their own personalities and feelings, creating a fun and comfortable space where they can find meaning and fulfillment in life together with their loved ones. Atelier Yamanami values one thing: being accepted as they are and valuing each individual's thoughts and values. We value relationships of mutual trust and engage in a variety of expressive activities, aiming to help each individual live freely, uniquely, and authentically. In recent years, many of the works produced at the workshop have received high praise both domestically and internationally, and have been introduced around the world through exhibitions and art fairs. In addition, through collaborative projects with creators and fashion designers, clothing featuring his work has been sold in 14 countries around the world, and portrait and art collections, as well as a documentary film set at ATELIER YAMANAMI, have been screened nationwide, furthering his widespread reach.
Artist Profile: Toshio Okamoto
Born in 1978. Resides in Shiga Prefecture. Has been a member of ATELIER YAMANAMI since 1996. A truck enthusiast, he began to express cars he saw while driving through paintings and clay. Today, he continues to create a stream of artwork using only ink and a single disposable chopstick, not just trucks, but also portraits, landscapes, and other motifs found in magazines and art books. He quickly sweeps his brushstrokes over the motif to create the overall picture, then paints over the lines again and again, following the flow. Spattered drops of ink and interwoven lines add a sense of dynamism to the painting. His style is usually to paint alone, lying down and leaning on his elbows while listening to his favorite music.
