From street murals to landmark murals and installations, Argentine-Spanish artist Felipe Panton has risen to the top—to become a global master of contemporary art.
At the dawn of the digital revolution, the material world finds itself expressed in a nascent virtual dimension. Artist Felipe Pantone, raised in this era, takes the opposite approach: he brings design elements from the intangible digital realm into the physical. A common thread throughout his work is a willingness to let go of all academic techniques and pre-existing notions of art, allowing him creative freedom and modern, unconventional tools to shape his own expression. His approach mirrors Zenith's unique approach, which, drawing on its rich history and traditional roots, is forward-thinking in shaping the future of watchmaking.
Pantone's work, which ranges from interactive objects to large-scale public installations, evokes themes of dynamism, transformation and the digital revolution. Inviting different interpretations and always engaging, Pantone's works are instantly recognizable and deeply sought after by art lovers, including those with a discerning eye for radical design.
Commenting on the collaboration, Felipe Pantone said: "I am incredibly excited and proud to be working with my favourite watchmaker to transform a place with such rich heritage and deep links to Swiss history into a work of art that can be enjoyed by all. I would like to thank Zenith for this opportunity and for trusting me to create at such a historic landmark."
Julien Tornare, CEO of Zenith said: "From the moment I encountered Felipe Pantone's work, I felt his extraordinary dynamic energy. Light, gravity and time come together like an electric current. He is a groundbreaking artist and a self-made entrepreneur. He has conquered the world with his unique artistic expression. When I discovered that he was a fan of Zenith and our watchmaking approach, I knew we should do something together. I couldn't be prouder that we have made it happen."
Using the tarpaulin of the Zenith Manufacture's main building as his canvas, Pantone conceived a spectacular work that wraps around the entire facade, using his signature style: a striking spectrum of colors combined with digital graphics. This is the first time such a collaboration has taken place for any watchmaking Manufacture, let alone one located within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Le Locle. This collaboration between a historic watchmaker and a contemporary artist is a monumental milestone that embodies Zenith's innovative, daring and unconventional approach.
Zenith's purpose is to inspire people and motivate them to achieve their dreams, against all odds. Since its founding in 1865, Zenith was the first modern watch manufacture, and its creations have been admired by great minds who have challenged themselves to make the impossible possible, from Louis Blériot, who made his historic crossing of the English Channel, to Felix Baumgartner, who achieved the record-breaking feat of freefalling from the stratosphere.
With innovation as its star, Zenith equips its watches with superior movements developed and manufactured in-house, including the Defy Inventor, which features a single-piece silicon oscillator manufactured using an advanced technological process, and the Defy El Primero 21, a chronograph accurate to 1/100th of a second. Since its founding in 1865, Zenith has constantly pursued precision and innovation, pioneering the pilot's watch that marked the dawn of the aviation age and the first mass-produced automatic chronograph caliber, the "El Primero." Always one step ahead, Zenith has built its unique legacy on new standards of performance and evocative design. Leading the way in the future of Swiss watchmaking since 1865, Zenith walks alongside those who dream of the stars and challenge the eternal past. Now is the time to reach your highest star.
