On November 1st, Tokyu Department Store Co., Ltd. became the first Japanese department store to open an official cross-border e-commerce shop on eBay, the world's largest online marketplace, through eBay Japan, the Japanese subsidiary of eBay Inc.

Tokyu Department Store had been considering cross-border e-commerce for some time, and in light of the recent decline in inbound demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they launched cross-border e-commerce with the aim of increasing revenue through sales through eBay, raising awareness of Tokyu Department Store, and capturing inbound demand once the COVID-19 pandemic has subsided.
eBay operates in 190 countries around the world, mainly in North America, but also in Europe and Asia, including Australia and China, and more sales opportunities are expected due to its wide distribution channels. Additionally, cross-border e-commerce is possible thanks to the eBay scheme, which makes use of Tokyu Department Store's e-commerce sales system.
This time, we took advantage of the discerning eye and editing skills we have cultivated as a department store to offer around 150 items, including traditional crafts such as cut glass and chopsticks, as well as children's helmets, prayer beads, and incense, which are becoming increasingly popular overseas.
In the future, we will further expand our categories and the number of items we handle, focusing on interior goods such as Imabari towels and Japanese tableware, with the aim of promoting Japanese culture through the sale of high-quality products.
