With the Christmas season fast approaching, many people are probably starting to plan their tree for this year. What kind of Christmas tree should I choose? How do I decorate it to look beautiful? These are questions that arise every year. We spoke to Mr. Muranaka, manager of Atelier Nikitiki's Isetan Shinjuku store, which stocks the popular Christmas trees, for more details.

Atelier Nikitiki sells charming toys inspired by the cultures of Europe, primarily Germany and Switzerland. This time of year, the store features beloved Christmas trees and ornaments. Located on the 6th floor of Isetan Shinjuku, the store is visited by many customers every year looking for a tree. The adorable ornaments and stylish decorations are a big draw, and the store sometimes sells out. We spoke to Yae Muranaka, the store manager and Christmas tree specialist, for advice on everything from choosing a Christmas tree to decorating techniques to ensure success.

What should you pay attention to when choosing a Christmas tree?

The key points to consider when choosing a Christmas tree vary depending on each household's circumstances. If a tree is too large and interferes with daily life, or if it's too difficult to take out and never sees the light of day, it can ruin your precious tree. Therefore, we recommend keeping the following points in mind when choosing one.

★Size

A larger tree will look better in a large room, but if you don't have enough space or your room's environment requires a smaller size or tabletop tree, you can choose one that suits your needs. If you have small children and want to avoid the risk of them knocking over the tree or removing the decorations, we recommend a wall-mounted tree. Wall-mounted trees are compact, making them popular for displaying in entryways, bedrooms, and hallways.

★Assembly

Ease of assembly is also important. Many people find it difficult to assemble and daunting to set up the tree. When considering purchasing a tree, checking the assembly instructions and estimated time required will help you enjoy a Christmas tree every year.

★Stored Size

Since Christmas trees are stored away for most of the year, it's important to know the size of the tree when it's in its box before purchasing. Please note that some ornaments do not shrink significantly when stored, while others may shrink but bend too much and be difficult to restore to their original shape.

What are some techniques for creating attractive decorations? What are some tips to avoid mistakes?

One of the most common concerns customers have about decorations is that they look too cluttered. Simply adjusting the balance of ornament placement can change the overall look.

First, decide on the location of the main ornament you want to highlight, and then arrange the other ornaments evenly around that center to achieve a great balance. If you have too many ornaments, we recommend limiting the number to a number that allows the green of the fir tree to be clearly visible.
It's also nice to limit the ornament colors and coordinate the tones. Deciding on a main color and adding one or two more creates a sophisticated look.

If you find it difficult to coordinate ornaments yourself, consider using ornament sets. This will allow you to easily create a beautiful tree. A set with a consistent style and texture will create a unified look, so you can easily decorate without overthinking.

What size tree will match a child's height?

Many people choose the size based on their imagination, such as in picture books, of their children stretching up to decorate the Christmas tree. If that image appeals to you, this may be a good idea. Some people purchase new ornaments as their children grow. Also, as mentioned earlier, if your children are young and you want to avoid the tree falling over or the ornaments being stolen, we recommend tabletop or wall-mounted ornaments rather than floor-standing ornaments.

How to make your Christmas tree decorations even more fun?

Why not expand your arrangements by buying even one new ornament each year? This will add new memories to the annual Christmas tree decorating ritual, and taking photos of the tree decorating will record its different appearance from previous years. If it's your child who is choosing the ornaments, the ornaments they choose this year may be a way to reflect their growth. We also recommend making handmade decorations with your children using origami paper and other materials to create a one-of-a-kind Christmas tree.

For adults, cool tones like silver and gold, or an elegant look incorporating delicate lace ornaments, are also lovely. For trees with flexible fir branches (wire), like those at Atelier Nikitiki, simply trimming them into a slim, coniferous forest-like form can give them a more mature look.

Recently, a very popular arrangement in our store is the "stuffed animal ornament." Sturdy tree branches (wire) allow for large stuffed animals to be placed, creating a huge impact. Many customers are drawn to these lazy ornaments! Enjoy creating a tree arrangement that features your favorite stuffed animals.

What are the features of the popular Christmas tree?

The trees from RS Global Trade, available at , are characterized by their attention to detail, recreating the beauty of fir trees with their densely packed leaves, gradated color that fades toward the tips of the branches, and rounded shapes. The branches are made with sturdy wire, so they can accommodate heavy decorations, and the angle of the branches can be adjusted to create the desired shape.

Another reason for their popularity is that they are incredibly easy to assemble, and when stored in their box, they are so compact that it's hard to imagine how they look when displayed. This tree has been well-received for its ability to keep its leaves from falling, making it a great choice for those who find it troublesome to vacuum more frequently during Christmas tree season due to falling leaves.

Choose from four different heights: 90cm, 120cm, 150cm, and 195cm, as well as wall-mounted versions.

★Decoration example

The 150cm version is decorated with a cute stuffed owl as an accent. This is our most popular type, and is complete simply by fitting the trunk into the base.
This 120cm type is boldly decorated with a sloth stuffed animal. This one is complete simply by fitting the trunk into the base.
This wall-hanging type is simply decorated with a small bird stuffed animal as an accent. This can be used facing up or down, and can also be used as a New Year's decoration after Christmas.
What do you think? Have fun decorating it however you like and enjoy Christmas at home with a beautiful Christmas tree.
