CENTRESTAGE, a fashion event organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and supported by CreateHK, an agency under the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, held a virtual runway show streamed online from September 17th to 19th.
This year marks the fifth year of the event, and for the first time, it was held online, with nearly 40 designers from Hong Kong and other Asian countries participating in six virtual runway shows. Collections from approximately 240 brands were made available on the website. The event promoted Hong Kong and Asian fashion as "phygital" (physical + digital) content to international buyers and fashion professionals in preparation for the new post-COVID era.

The virtual runway show held this time was a joint show format with Fashion Hong Kong, Next in Cheongsam*, FASHIONALLY #15, Taipei in Style and Hong Kong en Vogue each taking their own stage.
*Cheongsam is the English translation of qipao (cheongsam).

Furthermore, the 14 finalists of the "YDC (Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers Contest) 2020" participated remotely, and each finalist presented their work in a virtual runway show tailored to their respective themes. Many of the works featured intricate handmade techniques, such as patchwork and pattern-mix collages, creating content that evoked the energy of Hong Kong's young generation. The winner was Brian Chan's "Floating Mindset".

Fashion Hong Kong, which opened the event, featured eight Hong Kong-based brands that also present collections at fashion weeks overseas, under the theme of "Space Odyssey": 112 mountainyam, SUN=SEN, YEUNG CHIN, Bettie Haute Couture, DorisKath, METHODOLOGY, BLIND by JW, and ANGUS TUI. Each brand's Spring/Summer 2021 collection was unveiled in a catwalk show against a computer-generated backdrop of vast plains, glaciers, nature surrounded by plants and flowers, and the interior of a spaceship.

At Next in Cheongsam, THE SPARKLE COLLECTION and SPARKLE KAREN CHAN presented the modern Qipao with a futuristic image.

Fashion Collection #15 will feature new releases from nine brands that have previously competed in YDC: YDMH, ARTO., Charlotte Ng Studio, TAK L, SFZ&SANS, Kevin Ho, Lapeewee, FromClothingOf, and REDEMPTIVE.

Lapeewee, designed by Yannes Wong, a finalist in the 2014 YDC, was an urban collection that highlighted the delicacy and strength of Asian women. The collection featured a beautiful collage of fabrics, including knitwear and organza, as well as crisp wool tailored coats and A-line pleated dresses. Ribbons and belts were used to transform masculine pieces into feminine silhouettes, making for a show that evoked her experience at a couture house.

JUWN NATURAL, a new brand launched by MsEnvy in 2020, has launched a luxurious resort collection in natural pale tones, including silk chiffon printed dresses and organza dresses.
