Lacoste unveils its Spring/Summer 2021 women's and men's collections, balancing the brand's history with its handcrafted spirit.

Nov 2, 2020

Louise Trotter, Creative Director of French premium casual brand LACOSTE, presents her Spring/Summer 2021 women's and men's collection, which balances the brand's history and handcrafted spirit with the iconic crocodile motif. Photographed on the streets of Paris by Belgian photographer Quentin De Briey, the collection looks celebrate Lacoste's timeless image of sport through its past and present.

Drawing on her experience, Louise worked with discerning Lacoste collectors to deconstruct key Lacoste emblems by turning the inside out (and the outside in). The result is a dynamic collection crafted in Lacoste's Paris studio and Troyes, France, by upcycling and blending deadstock and vintage elements with new creations. Crafted in the brand's Paris studio and at the Lacoste atelier in Troyes, France, the garments breathe new life into vintage fabrics and hardware, evoking the warmth of human hands. The collection explores casual silhouettes inspired by sports like tennis, golf, boxing, cycling, and watersports. The collection features intricately cut-and-paste outfits, patchworked together, polo shirts transformed into jogging pants, nylon Windcheater jackets upcycled as tennis shorts, and rough-edged tennis sweaters in hybrid designs. Other pieces include a shortened pleated skirt, cropped anorak, and dropped-sleeve hoodies, creating relaxed styles. Polo shirts are boldly redesigned with stripes, ribbing, and fringe, resembling boxy, short-sleeved knitwear. Louise also questions the universality of the brand's logo, culminating in a collection spanning decades, reinterpreting timeless symbols. From script prints to embroidery, archival globe motifs, and the return of screen-printed "Chemise Lacoste" designs, graphics highlight the contrasts of each era, creating monochromatic statements that are carved and layered. Additionally, a groundbreaking collaboration with Lemari's, a French company specializing in embroidery and featherwork since 1880, embodies this season's collage spirit. In a world first, Lacoste brings Lemari's haute couture expertise to sports apparel. Cream sweatshirts and oversized white piqué polo shirts feature geometric crocodile appliqués overlaid with historic jacquard weave. Codenamed "#CrocoCouture," these unique pieces will be available exclusively on the Lacoste online store from December, with a worldwide limited run of 200 pieces.
