The shopping complex "nonowa Higashi-Koganei" will open in late January 2014 under the elevated tracks near Higashi-Koganei Station on the JR Chuo Line. The complex will include 21 stores catering to the needs of local residents, including the Western-style pastry shop "cocofrans" presented by Mugi no Ho, the food court "Food Pantheon" by Lotteria, and general merchandise stores "Bleu Bleuet" and "IT'S DEMO." The exterior design, taking advantage of the town's student population, is themed around the Musashino Quartier Latin. Simultaneously with the opening, a new Suica-only ticket gate, the "nonowa Exit," will be installed under the elevated tracks on the west side of Higashi-Koganei Station. A "Comprehensive City Information Service" will be launched in the space directly in front of the existing ticket gate, providing information on the station, commercial facilities, local events, and tourist information. Five digital signage screens will be installed throughout the complex to provide local information. A nursery school is scheduled to open in April next year, followed by a food zone in the summer.
This facility is part of the "Chuo Line Mall Project", which is based on the concept of "connecting greenery, people, and the city". The name "nonowa" was chosen with the hope that various "wa" (circles) will be born in the Musashino area, such as "circles of people", "circles of the environment", and "harmony of hearts". The logo mark is based on the image of connecting "wa" (circles), and expresses the company's attitude of placing importance on ties with the local community.
