Original Pancake House, a 60-year-old American restaurant, opens its first Japanese restaurant in Kichijoji

Jun 3, 2013

On the 4th, the long-established American pancake chain, The Original Pancake House, will open its first Japanese location on the first floor of the Marui Kichijoji store (1-7-1 Kichijoji Minamimachi, Musashino City, Tokyo). The restaurant faithfully recreates the pancakes made using traditional methods and techniques passed down from its home country for 60 years. The menu includes the "Dutch Baby" (1,280 yen), a German pancake topped with homemade whipped butter, lemon, and powdered sugar; the "Apple Pancake" (1,680 yen), oven-baked with plenty of cinnamon and apples; and the "Buttermilk Pancake" (800 yen), served with homemade whipped butter and maple syrup. Other original pancake recipes, crepes, waffles, egg dishes, and more are also available. Open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The first 100 customers on each day of the 4th and 5th will receive an original tote bag featuring the Original Pancake House characters.

Original Pancake House was opened in Portland, Oregon in 1953 by founders Les Highet and Erma Hueheke. Currently, there are 117 stores across the United States, and an overseas store in Seoul, South Korea. Not only are the dough made with natural yeast, which is fermented for three days, but the whipped butter, syrup, and sauces are all made using original recipes that were developed after studying pancake recipes that were popular in other countries.
