Niigata-based Asahi Shuzo's Kubota sake brand has released its first liqueur made with yuzu citrus from Kochi Prefecture.

Release Date:2020.10.26
Oct 12, 2020
Asahi Shuzo Co., Ltd. will begin shipping the first new liqueur under the "Kubota" brand, "Kubota Yuzu Liqueur," on October 26, 2020.

Despite the tough conditions in the alcoholic beverage industry, liqueur shipments have increased, and it is particularly popular among younger generations and those with low alcohol tolerance. This time, the product is primarily targeted at younger generations who do not often drink sake, with the aim of helping them learn how to enjoy sake. For the flavor, we chose yuzu, a citrus fruit that pairs well with sake and is becoming increasingly popular overseas as a Japanese food ingredient. This liqueur is fruity yet retains the crispness that is characteristic of "Kubota," achieving a good balance of fruitiness and sake flavor. The yuzu used in "Kubota Yuzu Liqueur" is "honyuzu" (real yuzu) grown in the Monobe and Reihoku districts of Kochi Prefecture, the only region in Japan primarily focused on "tamayuzu," shipped whole. This region boasts the highest volume of yuzu shipments in Japan. The yuzu boasts a strong, natural aroma and a tart juice. These honyuzu are gently squeezed with the skin on, reducing the juice yield to create a sweeter taste with less acidity and bitterness. Using "Kubota Senju Junmai Ginjo," with its gentle aroma and gentle acidity, as the base, the refreshing aroma and subtle sweetness of the yuzu are enhanced. Enjoy it on the rocks or straight for a light, refreshing taste. It can also be enjoyed in a variety of ways, such as mixed with soda or tea for a cocktail, or frozen as a sorbet. The label design features colors reminiscent of the yuzu fruit. The gradation, reminiscent of blending watercolors, expresses the soft flavor of yuzu that spreads in the mouth when put in the mouth, and its marriage with sake.

Asahi Shuzo listens to the changing times and the voices of its customers, always taking on challenges appropriate to the times in order to respond to those voices, and continues to pursue and provide deliciousness that satisfies its customers.
