To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the opening of the first Gucci store in Japan, Gucci will hold the "Gucci Celebrates 50 Years in Japan" event on the first floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building from March 12th to 18th. The event, titled "The House of Artisans," will showcase the artisanal skills of Florence, Italy. This will be the first time that the brand's leather goods, shoe, silk, and jewelry artisans will be gathered together in Japan. In addition to bamboo bags and horsebit loafers, the event will also showcase the production process for limited-edition Soho handbags, new Jackie bags, wallets, and the new "Lady Lock" handbag. Additionally, a capsule collection designed by Creative Director Frida Giannini to commemorate the anniversary will be available for pre-sale at the store. The collection, which includes a full lineup from handbags to jewelry, is inspired by the "Flora" print on a scarf specially designed for Princess Grace of Monaco in 1966. The scarf that inspired this iconic print will be sold as a charity item, with 100% of the proceeds going to the UNESCO Association Educational Support Scholarship - GUCCI Scholarship. The price is 47,000 yen.
Gucci's first store in Japan opened in 1964 on Miyuki-dori in Tokyo's Ginza district by Choichiro Motoyama, the founder of San Motoyama, who was captivated by the elegance of Florentine tradition and culture that is embodied in Gucci.
