On August 7, 2026, 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE opened its new flagship store, 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE / AOYAMA, in Tokyo's Aoyama district within the historic FROM-1st building.
More than a retail space, the new flagship offers an immersive environment where visitors can experience the brand's philosophy of "A Piece of Cloth" and its exploration of folded structures—not only through the products themselves, but through the architecture and spatial design.

132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE is a brand launched in 2010, originating from Reality Lab., the research and development team established by Issey Miyake in 2007. Through a collaboration with computer scientist Jun Mitani, the brand applies algorithm-based three-dimensional origami design to clothing, creating garments that merge mathematical principles with innovative design.
Combining computational research into folded structures with Japanese craftsmanship, the brand transforms a single piece of cloth into three-dimensional garments. That philosophy is embedded in its name: "1" represents a piece of cloth, "2" the two-dimensional plane, "3" the three-dimensional form, and "5" a new dimension beyond when worn.
132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE / AOYAMA translates this philosophy into a physical space where visitors can experience it firsthand.

The FROM-1st building holds a special place in the history of ISSEY MIYAKE.
In 1976, it became home to the brand's very first flagship store. Then, in 2010, it also welcomed the first 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE boutique.

The opening of 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE / AOYAMA is therefore more than a relocation or renovation. It marks a new chapter that connects the brand's history with its future.
The essence of 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE cannot be understood through finished garments alone.
At 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE / AOYAMA, the transformation itself becomes part of the experience.

Large glass display cases throughout the store present the garments in their folded state. Displayed almost like industrial prototypes or architectural models, the pieces reveal the sculptural beauty of their folded structures before they are worn.

Elsewhere in the space, visitors encounter the garments fully unfolded and transformed into three-dimensional forms. Seeing both states side by side offers a rare opportunity unique to the store, allowing visitors to follow the journey from a flat piece of cloth to a wearable garment.
Moving between the two-dimensional and the three-dimensional, between stillness and movement, visitors experience the brand's exploration of folded structures not simply as a display, but as something tangible.

Series including No.1, No.3, and No.10 explore different approaches to transforming folded two-dimensional forms into sculptural garments. Combining lightweight comfort with architectural beauty, they demonstrate the continuing possibilities of creating clothing from a single piece of cloth.
132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE / AOYAMA is more than a new flagship store.
It is a place where visitors can experience the process through which garments transform from two dimensions into three, explore the design principles behind folded structures, and engage with ISSEY MIYAKE's long-standing philosophy of "A Piece of Cloth."
