On March 12th, Gucci kicked off "The House of Artisans," an event celebrating the brand's 50th anniversary in Japan, at the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building. The event runs until the 18th.
Gucci's first store in Japan was opened in 1964 in Tokyo's Ginza district by San Motoyama founder Choichiro Motoyama. The event features a capsule collection designed by creative director Frida Giannini using the "Flora" motif, also created in the 1960s, ahead of its nationwide release on April 1st. Additionally, top artisans from Gucci's Florence workshop will be visiting Japan to showcase Gucci's craftsmanship at four locations in the building.
The Stage on the first floor will feature bags and other leather goods. The store offers a wide variety of iconic models, including the Bamboo Bag, Soho Collection, and New Jackie Bag. Also available are limited-edition models of the new Ladylock handbag and limited-edition colors from the Soho Collection. Each bag in the capsule collection features a plaque identifying it as a limited edition. A demonstration corner featuring artisans will showcase the Ladylock's manufacturing process for the first time, and customers can have their bags engraved with their initials. The women's shoes promotion space on the second floor will showcase the manufacturing process of the Horsebit loafers, a tradition that has remained unchanged for 60 years since the brand's debut in 1953. Four artisans are involved in the process, from sewing to polishing and coloring. A made-to-measure service is also available, allowing customers to have special braiding applied to their purchased items. The Stage #3 in Center Park on the third floor will feature clothing and scarves crafted from Flora-print fabric, as well as bags and shoes. A craftsman will handwrite initials on purchased scarves. In addition, all proceeds from the sale of the scarf will be donated to the "UNESCO Association School Support Scholarship for Children Affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake - GUCCI Scholarship."
Jewelry will also be on display in the West Park/Promotion Space on the same floor. For the "Horsebit Necklace," which is part of the capsule collection, artisans will demonstrate stone setting and polishing on site. A service to engrave initials on purchased items is also available.
Gucci has also taken over the store's windows, decorating them in a spring-like style with bright beige and the "Flora" motif.
