Japanese designer Ryuya Ohishi's brand, "RYUYA OHISHI," unveiled its 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection at Milan Fashion Week. He won the local fashion contest "NEXT GENERATION" and earned the opportunity to stage a show. The theme of the collection was "QUADRATO." Inspired by the work of artist Rachel Whiteread, the designer showcased designs composed of complex patterns, evoking the image of clothing transforming into a box. The materials used were primarily cotton and wool, with a particular focus on the drape of the fabric. Ryuya Ohishi was born in 1988 and graduated from Koide Gakuen Fashion and Beauty College in 2011. He was selected for the Soen Award two years in a row from 2009, and won the Grand Prize at the Kobe Fashion Contest in 2010. Following this, he studied abroad at the Istituto Marangoni in Italy. He continued working in Milan after graduation, and has now been selected for the Soen Award three times. "Next Generation" is a contest organized by the Italian Fashion Council with the aim of improving Italian fashion and discovering new designers originating from Italy. Winners create their work primarily with the cooperation of Italian factories. Last year, Murata Harunobu became the first Japanese to win the award, and presented his collection at Milan Fashion Week 2012-13 AW.
